Most photographers that shoot amateur and reality photos use pro equipment. Check out my Naked College Girls site. The photography is amateur stlyle. But I've been shooting with pro equipment for 4 years.

It should not be considered amateur then. In my opinion anything professionally done is not amateur!

tmphoto 11-12-2003 07:54 PM

I was always under the impression that "amateur" referred to the model, not the photographic talent or equipment....

I have shot "amateur" content for a number of sites, and a number of mags. I am by no means an amateur photographer.

Amateur style is not the magazine style photo. True amateur style has no studio lighting because studio lights are staged and therefore simply not amateur. Amateur photos are shot outdoors, flashing in cities or fucking in public places. You will hardly have any time to setup lighting or you might finish the job in jail.

The so called amateur studio content is mostly garbage as it indeed only describes the photographer and not the model.

True ... I think I work best with WHATEVER I feel comfortable with :BangBang:

I shoot a lot of video as well photos at the same time so no flashes - thank you. I usually use PhotoFlex XL softbank for key, a Lowel Tota with Umbrella for fill and 2 DPs for hair/background lights. That's the textbook setup - I've done it once or twice I think ...

You can't do it in a bathroom so placing lights creatively is important. The most important thing is to have the model relax and feel sexy - HOT light do the trick every time. It's like being in the ...uh... spotlight :Graucho

http://www.white-lightning.com/ We've been using them 3+ years and have had no problems with them. That's at 250 to 1000+ photos/day 6 days a week. They also make http://www.alienbees.com but those are a cheaper build with a plastic case and not as sturdy.

For video I prefer florescent over hot. Much cooler which is very important here in Florida.

Why dont you all post a pic of what you shoot and we will judge what looks best.

People can run their mouth all they want, shut up and post your work and let the voices be the judge.

Brag about not using lights, or any real equipment, let's see what your finished product looks like.

VideoJ 11-13-2003 09:16 AM

Also get radio remotes like http://www.central-camera.com/flash/...izard_plus.htm for your strobes. Well worth the money if your shooting a lot

From using a number of different systems over the past 25 years i suggest you buy the Pro Photo Acute lights. I just purchased a second set which we take all over the world they are portable strong fast recycle times and the quality of the flash out put is far better than most. They are very useful if you travel because you can switch voltage from 110-240. We did a shoot in Argentina last month ( 240volts ) and they worked faultlessly shooting around 800-1500 images a day. Worth the extra $$$ IMHO

Steer clear of Photogenics they don't last if you use them in a professional studio, they burn out fast!!!

:thumbsup :thumbsup

Hey guys, pointing a camera at a naked girl DOES NOT make you a photographer.

I used to hear the same things from windbags who thought they were hot shit cause they shot "internet models"

If you shoot photos and people pay for your photos, guess what? That makes you a PROFESSIONAL photographer....

The average fat bald horny surfer doesn't give jack shit about the "art" of photography...He wants to get off..If my photos get him off, then my job is done...

And I shoot with a point and shoot camera and use my house ceiling lights for lighting....

I have to say I have had my profotos for quite some time use them all the time and travel with them as well. They are excllent!
I even bought them used have had them for over a year and half and have never even changed bulbs shooting every week!

I only shoot males (Randy Blue) and even though my work does not take as much time as setting up for a female shoot my pics turn out great!

I ended up going with the ProFotos. The reason is because I was able to get some barely used ProFoto Acute 2400's and another Fuji S2 Pro from WantonGirls for a screaming deal! He saw my post here and let me know what he had available.

Wanton wasn't using his ProFotos like he thought he would. He's used to his Photogenics. And he had 3 S2's.

Damn, I fell into that one!

Thanks, WantonGirls! :glugglug

Thanks for posting. You sound like you know what you're talking about.

Yep, I'll be in 'Vegas. :)

If that is you, don't fucking bother replying. I want the serious content providers.

Here's my question: I am going to buy studio lights today or tomorrow. I'm torn between two brands:

ProFoto Acute 2400

* or *

Speedotron 2405 blacklines

I've been told that Profotos are overpriced (yet still good of course) and that Speedotrons are more of a "work horse". I abuse the hell out of lights. I have been using Novatron's but we've blown up 4 Novatron Power supplies already this year. We shoot 500 to 1,000 photos a day, 5 to 6 days a week.

Anyone opinions on brand?

(This doesn't really matter, but if you want to know the camera's we use with them: A Nikon D1x, Nikon D1, and a Fuji S2 Pro)

I wouldn't choose either, I prefer Photogenic 1250DR's with 60" umbrellas and a Canon D60 or Canon 10D is what we use.

For video try to the Starlite Media with softboxes, they are great.

IMHO Photogenic has made its mark in the photography world and proved to be great quality.

Penrod 11-14-2003 01:29 PM

I think you should go for the Optimus Prime 24587 with 1.21 gigawatts of megapixels.
