anyone using DSL in here?

I'm getting it this week wanted cable but I have satellite here so I can't. I heard DSL is good anyway because you have a reliable dl speed all the time apposed to cable where your on a shared network of users. The other good thing is I'm 2 blocks from the central station so I'll get maximum speed. If you have DSL are you pleased with it? Im getting it through Verizon.

I have satellite, DSL AND Cable modem...

What's having satellite got to do with not getting a cable modem, it's a seperate service than cable television.

Anyway, my cable download is much faster 95% of the time, but DSL upload seems to be faster than cable.

Flip a coin...

I'm on FITL DSL. Guinea pig for BellSouth's fiber optical DSL. So far so good.

The reason why I can't get cable modem here is because Comcast is the only provider. I don't have a cable line run to my house from the street and you can only get it being a cable subscriber down here. Idon't want shitty comcast cable love my 250 dish network channels

Don't blame you! Dish Network rules. I got lucky, cable was still AT&T when I had it installed and they were hurting for customers so installed the line just for the modem. They tried to sell me cable TV and even offered to throw my dish away for me. I laughed so hard right in his face that I think I embarassed him.

depends on were you live. I was paying 79.00 when dsl came out in my area, I live about 10-15 feet shy of the central office so my dsl connection sucked. For cable 3.2 megabits per second avarage, which is not bad because most of the people back here have satellite and dial up still. So im happy till something else come along to take it's place.

Not sure about you, but I'd personally take DSL over satellite. My satellite experience told me that it's overpriced with too many outages due to "solar activity" and other miscallaneous bullshit.

DSL has never been a problem for me, and I don't experience moments of "goddammit, it's rush hour again" like I did with cable modems.

I had cable and it would always crap out and lose the connection and I'd have to reset the modem all the time. I switched to Verizon 768/128 DSL, it's slower, but the reliability makes up for it.

I have dsl (in Holland tho)

Max is 1 megabyte a sec which i rarely reach tho.
Normally im downloading at 200 or 300 kb up to half a meg is the server is fast.
Microsoft downloads are fast as hell for example.
Plus i can open 10 connections at 100 kb/s each so in total that is 1 megabyte a sec.

the self-install kit from Verizon is nice, no stupid technicians coming over and messing with your computer.

Love my DSL 1.5mbps down and 384kbs up. Had DSL since it was first introduced although I no longer use Verizon. They had a bad habit of going down every time it rained. go figure . . .

DSL is dependent on how close you are to the nearest router. When I do DSL speed tests my results usually fall somewhere between Corporate LAN and T1.
