Which would you use in your members area ? and why ?

I use mpg and a colleague of mine who uses wmv in his area said that his members complain about the wmv's.. -
Mpg is better in my opinion. Call me old fashioned. Mpegs Play on any movie player, no codecs...yada yada yada.
Seeking while playing WMVs is something that has always chapped my ass.
If file size is the main issue, go with WMV.Comment

MPEG please. It's a pain in the ass for me as a Linux user to fire up my Windoze box just so I can watch some pr0n
Plus like other people said MPEG don't need any special codec installed. While with WMV if you want to watch a file encoded with a newer codecs then what you have on your system the user has to let go of his schlong and hit on the OK button on the upgrade dialog box. Wait for the new codec retrieval to finish (if it every does; most of the time it just hangs because M$ is not getting the shit together) and your user's woody goes away. Next they'll be spending their money on Amazon. So; MPEG please

mpg I think the quality is much better too... well I guess it's all in who is doing the compression

wmv is much better quality than mpeg, and the file size is smaller. The downside is that many dont understand what wmv is and you will have to put up a page explaining what to do if they member can't get wmv to work.
Also I have members with Mac computers who have no end of trouble, even when downloading the Windows Media Player for Mac.Comment

we use RealMedia on all sites. tried WMV as a test had a ton of support qs so we dropped it.
Tried Dvix which was great quality but way to many user problems understanding what it was about.
Real media aint the best pic quality but has caused us the least of problems as far as compatabilty is concerned.

Personally, I think clips should be at least ten minutes long...I don't understand why paysites break videos down into 2 minute clips...If i'm a surfer, I can't jack off on two minutes....My mouse is greasy enough as it is with long clips....Originally posted by J$tyle$

My clips average 10 minutes and at least 100MB each...but they're crystal clear and downloadable...
If you're worried about bandwidth, go with at least five minutes...but anything shorter than that is a waste in my opinion...Comment

I'm thinking 3 - 5 minutes would be cool based on the fact that most users are STILL on 56k

Do you realy think so? Ok, try to render a video in wmv with 1150kbits and 224kbits for audio and please do the same for the mpeg. And, is the file size still that different?wmv is much better quality than mpeg
Anyhow, yes you are right the quality in view of encoding with 384kbits and less the wmv files (specialy the new 9 version) is much better than fo mpeg. It's realy not recommended to move below 1150kbits for mpeg files. Therefor I would always recommend wmv for endusers need, because it will be serverd to them much faster and the quality could be easily up to vhs qual. at lower file sizes. I think nobody has to care about linux users, because I guess the never will pay for an adult site
