Why would one put a plasma tv above a fireplace?

This just doesn't make a whole hell of a lot of sense to me, yet so many people think it's a perfect place for a television. Isn't that a little high up for television viewing? Seems like your neck would stiffen up pretty quickly.

Wouldn't the heat sort of fuck with it - being plasma and all?

I've got my plasma about 4 feet above ground in my armoire -- no problems at all. Makes it easier to lean back into the couch, actually...

That fucking painting is soooo damn ugly.
I want to get rid of it but it was a gift from a family member and I cant find any other place in the home to put it. Its just so damn ugly i have it hidden in my downstairs office.

A Plasma would look much better.

above the fireplace is a shitty place for a TV.

No matter how big or small your tv is, you want the center of the screen to be at eye level from wherever you watch it the most

I agree.
We watch 90% of our TV upstairs in our TV room, and rarely watch TV in the Family room becasue of the whole fireplce thing.

But our living room is very long in nature, and the seats are pulled pretty far back so it doesnt strain the neck!

We have 6 TV's in the house and the most expensive and nicest one is rarely used.

put one of those arms on it so you can lower it when you're watching it, or have an enclosure built so ir raises up out of a cabinet or something and then is hidden when you arent watching it

or even better!

put a roll down movie screen over that fireplace and get a dlp projector on the ceiling.... flip a switch, roll down a 120 inch screen and watch a movie... flip the switch again, it rolls up and isnt very noticeable mounted to the ceiling right next to the wall

and then mount that plasma screen on the ceiling over your bed

take it down from there - It looks hella out of place there and is a horrible spot for a tv. Put in your office like you wanted.

But whatever you do, take it down from where you have it now

LOL!!

I like that.

But the fucking tv is like 350 pounds man..

That thing would be hard to mount above a bed..

Could be deadly!

Above the bed???

Ok, now that's even more ridiculous than above the fireplace. I wouldn't last 10 minutes in that position before I fell asleep! I have a hard enough time as it is sinking into a cozy couch with the lights dimmed trying to get through a movie. Anyone else have the problem? Even if I love the movie, if I'm watching it at night, my eyes are always closing. It drives my wife crazy...
