For 8-10 servers, why not just pick up a rack at a backbone directly and circumvent the fools who can't provide hosting?

fast, solid and reliable... and Canadian.

We deal with a lot of movie servers, if you are looking to mirror some movie sites and work out some automatic updates across networks, we'd be interested in helping you out.

Hehe, website hasnt been updated in close to two years.

I REALLY should get on that. Our pricing starts at $0.99 per gb and drops to $0.45 per gb depending on traffic level.

For anyone looking at large volume sites, we can work out a price per mbps calculated at average sustained usage.

I do have an updated version of the site (paid a gentleman on this board to redesign our stuff), it just hasnt been tweaked to my final satisfaction yet. Thus, the old site still remains.

If you want something in Edmonton, the best is GT ( www.gt.ca ) They are not cheap though. Last year I believe their prices were $4US/gig + Rack space. When I was with them, I couldn't find anywhere to ping that got less then 100ms ping time. Canada, US, Europe. They have massive peering relationships, gas backup generators, etc. If you want something 100% solid for bandwidth and still local accessability, use them. I don't believe they provide admining, so that is an additional cost. If you don't need local accessability, I would try and find something a lot cheaper in the US that is also extremely reliabable.

If you've got your own tech people you might consider cutting out the middle man and hosting with one of the actual bandwidth providers. We found Peer1 to be much better than GT, atleast in Montreal. You could also have fiber laid into your office.

Well, if you want to admin your own box, use Peer1. If you want to pay high prices for your bandwidth, use Peer1 directly. If you want to have 24/7 on call support from guys who aren't technically inclined, use Peer1. If you want to pay over $200US per mbps with a 10mbps commitment, use Peer1.

I use Peer1 for EZProvider's network. I have been with Peer1 since before they were Peer1. They are expensive because they have a top notch network and facility. In nearly 4 years, Peer1 has had 1 network outage that lasted less then 30 seconds - find another provider that can top that.

However, a great network is only useful if your servers stay up. If you are looking for hosting, then you need an experienced admin to monitor and patch your box or you will run into problems. That's where EZP comes in - you see, I have admins on the payroll. We have the technical know how to keep your sites up and running.

Finally, because we have been with Peer1 for ages and have a fairly decent sized contract with them, we can offer fully managed servers running on an excellent network for less money then the average consumer can get just bandwidth from our supplier.

Tera-byte had some problems about 1 1/2 - 2 years ago. They grew too fast, so they were having 1-4% steady packet loss for a few months there. Their main upstreams (WERE, might have changed) AT&T canada and Telus, with GT(now 360 networks) as a backup. Located in the CN tower downtown Edmonton.

Have you been there? Too bad I don't live in Edmonton, I was told they were one of the largest in Canada and been hosting for many years. I wish I could visit.

You can get a much better deal than that.
From Peer1? In Canada? If you can, hit me up. I would be interested to know. ICQ 48895889

If you can get a better deal from Peer1 in San Jose, Seattle or NYC, then I don't care.

I haven't been in the back places with the servers, just in the main reception area. I was hosted there for a few months, as well as most places in Edmonton. My admin said they were knocking out walls at the time to add more room to their server rooms. They grew too fast for their own good for a while, but have stabilized. Just not the highest quality bandwidth, GT is good, but AT&T Canada(new name now, don't recall it) and TAC(telus advanced communications) are average/fair for bandwidth and uptime.
