Could it be that Acacia did the mass mailing to people of all walks of life in the adult industry (including those who are clearly not infringing) in order to get them to call them & sign something, anything that could be considered a +1 licensee to report to their shareholders?
In my opinion, I could see this see as a possibility. Surely there has to be some legal risk in doing something like sending out license/contact requests (or were they demands?) to people and companies who run design houses, hosting companies & TGP's that don't contain any locally hosted a/v content. So why would they do it? I think it's possible that this latest round of people who were mailed may be more likely to call Acacia to try explain their situation... Stockholders are probably looking for: MORE LICENSE REVENUE and/or MORE LICENSEES |

That's also copyright infringement by reprinting C/Net's articles, unless they got permission to do so which I highly doubt. Someone should contact C/Net.

I just noticed how frequently the people on that yahoo message board throw around the number of people who have licensed.

I'd say they get at least a few hundred licensees with this. Many people don't visit the boards and have no idea of what's going on, of those maybe 1 in 50 will sign.

I don't know about you guys. But now that C|Net is associated with Acacia, I will NEVER use their services, watch their programs or visit their sites again...
I'm sure C|Net will love that. |

Figuring we'll send out 50,000 of these maybe get a .1 % closing rate and be able to do another press release how another 50 or whatever companies just licensed with them.

Come to think of it about a month ago I was talking to someone who is huge in this biz, but rarely goes to the boards anymore and I asked if he got a letter from Acacia and the response was, "What's an Acacia?".
So you're right people will really be bewildered if they don't hangout and have the scoop from places like here.

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if next quarters earnings we saw license revenues under what was suggested, but 100-200 new low level licensees.
So the stockholders will see this as "growth" not knowing the bulk of the new licensees are the smallest of the small adult companies who may or may not even have a need for the license. And the stockholders will let them slide, or raise the prices for yet another quarter. That's my opinion of what could possibly happen anyway. |

Their tactics are following a pattern which i encourage everyone to file a complaint @ www.ftc.gov
look at all the news articles about the licensees. they either don't have the funds to sustain any type of litigation, or dont want the hassle of fighting their claim. look at their prospectus. its pretty funny reading |
