Help! I just goofed up my computer!

I just downloaded a 'tar' backup file from my server to my Mac G3 &d it goofed everything up. I can't access my email or the Internet, (I'm writing this from a different computer, nothing prints etc. What a hassle! I have a CD that says ' Software Install or Restore - To start up from this CD, hold down the C key as the computer starts up' but I'm afraid it might make matters worse.

What do I do? Can you help?

Thanks!

Mike

This email is [email protected] . I can't get email from my regular account 'cause I can't access it!

If it's a newer mac then it's unix based underneath the pretty interface. If he untarred the backup into / then he's overwritten a heap of his local files. System restore is probably the way to go in this case.
