Google Stock: Hype or Hope?

http://news.ft.com/servlet/ContentSe...012571727 088

Unlike Yahoo or other companies that went made IPO's in the late 90's, Google will be profitable when it makes its IPO.

Regardless, p/e and traditional methods should still dictate what it should be priced as opposed to Dot Boom hype...

It does't matter if Google plans to post profits of one gazillion dollars next quarter, people are cautious about internet company stocks these days.

They'll be too busy being billionaires to care.

That, and when you're public, your priorities shift. Like it or not.

Some noogle will slip in and take their marketshare while they are messing around trying to appease shareholders.

We'll have to find another SE

The techies (that started the google buzz) have already starting gathering around google HQ with pitchforks and torches - and that was before any serious talk about a google IPO. That was for other privacy reasons.

Remember when infoseek used to be the search engine? What happend to them? They went public.

But just like any parent, you can only stand your beloved children for so long before you are ready to kick them out and unleash them on the public.

Maybe the google guys are just getting burnt out and are ready to cash in and move on to something new?

Then again, I can't think of a better starting point than owning google for *anything* you might want to do or get involved in.

They are looking into holding the IPO via online auction. I've seen this done before by direct invest bankers like IPO.com (which crapped out, Im not sure)

Definitely will have a lot of hype and attention.

Diferences....

Difference 1 -- Infoseek was sucked up by Disney, which then disgorged it and all net properties.

Difference 2 -- Infoseek was always losing money. If Google's claims are to be believed they are actually PROFITABLE.

Is this the article ?

If google goes public, they will begin to lose their support slowly from educational centers that adore them as they once adored Yahoo! and Nutscrape.

They will have to become more ROI orientated, and the bean counters may gradually kill it. And there is always room for more search engines on the horizon...

I.E. msn's "google killer," I've never liked M$ tactics, but when they come after your business, you better get the capital to defend it. If you don't, you will be the next Nutscrape...looking for a firesale buyer.

So, Google HAS TO GO PUBLIC before M$'s search is integrated into Longhorn, Hotmail, and M$ comes out with ad free educational solutions, custom business solutions integrated right into Office.

But... Google with a market cap of 15 billion?

I hope they don't turn into another AV.
