Got my Acacia letter today...motherfuckers

How did they find me? I just bought the company and the sites 2 months ago. My name isnt on anything. The domains are still regged under the old company name. The old company had settled with Acacia already for a very reasonable fee. Think that will xfer over or I can get the sale type of deal? Fuckwads!

That's all it is man.. if this was any kind of real threat it wouldn't have been sent through uncertified snail mail.

Either way.. I got the letter and I have never once infringed on their patent. Ever. I would love to see the proof they have behind this.

To clear things up.. the name and address on my letter was very unique as I had just moved out to San Diego last October and have been working for Jason & Alex. I have signed up under 3 sponsors since then and none of those sponsors have the same address as ACACIA. The only company that matched my address was Matrix Content, matched it perfectly.. missing the apartment number and all.

mmm... i read that article that you linked to, and while i don't see mention of Steve or Barry in it, the mention of the "eroticfusion" domain after all this time literally makes me want to puke into my own lap. i can only wonder why "pictureview" isn't being mentioned here as well. fuckers, the 9th ring won't be near deep enough for them..

Nobody should be surprised if any of the people that licensed turned over customer lists. Even though Rob Berman claimed that they were no longer asking for that information in their licensing deals, I have yet to see or hear otherwise.

In fact, every settlement offer that I have seen or heard of has included that provision. Now, I am not saying that individually companies did not relinquish that info and struck that clause out because that is certainly possible. I am just saying that has always been an important point that Acacia has made, and apparently continues to make.

When you make a deal, there are always concessions to be made. Maybe someone that has settled would care to disclose their deal terms explicitly and in full?

I find it sad to read this. We have paid out $25,000 because we refused to release any info. We only settled because our license did not require "informing on our clients". I will be contacting my attorney in the mornig and see if I can post my license without getting fucked, so people like you will go away.

Here's a quick repost summary:

For those that haven't been following the threads and news about Acacia, let me briefly bring you up to speed so you can understand why the thread topic is titled the way it is.

Acacia Research (http://www.acaciatechnologies.com) has some patents (http://www.acaciatechnologies.com/patents.htm) that claim essentially to owning the process of downloading audio or video files from a web server.

They sent out "information packets" to many companies, some adult, some to schools and universities.

They are demanding license fees (http://www.acaciatechnologies.com/te...t_adultent.htm) for payment of using their "patent".

Some adult websites have licensed their patent (see Press Releases at http://www.acaciatechnologies.com) while others have joined together to form the IMPA (http://www.impai.org) and to also become defendants in litigation.

FightThePatent.com (http://www.FightThePatent.com) was formed on August 12th as a one-man crusade to bring awareness to these issues and to assist the defendants to find prior art (with no compensation).

Many webmasters jumped into the search for prior art, using this page http://www.FightThePatent.com/v2/Searching.html to help find stuff to look for, and http://www.FightThePatent.com/v2/Squirt.html to see what prior art examples were posted.

FightThePatent.com has now broadened its scope to propose the start of Fight the Patent Foundation ("FTPF")(http://www.FightThePatent.com/go) to help fight against patent abuse.

Anyone been hacked for their contact list by Acacia or had their dumpsters dived? Are you sure?

I know the guys over at Matrix very well, actually really good friends with Norman Bentley, and he kept me informed about the whole Acacia thing they were going through.

I can tell you this there is NO way they would have given up anything like webmaster info to them, in fact they paid a serious amount of money just to they didn't have to....

Just my 2cents...

So it appears that Acacia will give you a better deal if you allow them to market to your customers?

We settled because Babenet took us for over $175,000 and could not afford the next payment required. We were also released from giving over webmaster information, which was the only reason we joined the Defence Group in the first place. Our video sale are menial. We specialize in still images. Anyone still involved in the Defense Group can back me on this and why we did it. Our desision was based soley on money.

I've been hearing Matrix not only on GFY but other boards and in live chat rooms. I've bought content from Matrix in the past, curious to see if I'm gettin an Acacia packet or not.

Ok, I am going to ask a REALLY stupid question here because I only RECENTLY started paying close enough attention to this one myself. But I am going to ask something and it may or may not have been answered, I am not sure. BUT:

Why should you have to release your webmasters names to signup with them? THIS is the only thing I am confused on at this point........ and it could be that I am just NOT up to speed on this whole thing, which I am trying to do now. I hate coming into a game late, I have way too much to catch up on.
