ATI or Nvidia? Help me guys!

I'm looking at getting a Nvidia or ATI chipset and these are the two I'm looking at? What do you think is nice?

Nvidia Chipset

or

ATI Chipset

nVidia !!

I used to buy ATI cards but they always had driver problems.

The new ones are better, but after you've been through an ordeal you never want to go back to that vendor again.

You should read the reviews on http://www.NewEgg.com for those cards and buy whatever one you choose there too.

They have the best prices you'll find anywhere and the stuff arrives ahead of schedule.

Yea, I have a all in wonder right now, and sometimes I have problems. My first thought was just to buy the nVidia! I use to have one and loved it. Does the one I posted look good?

I just bought an eVGA eGForce FX5200 128mb for one of the new PC's I'm building. I'm not really into gaming so that is enough power for me.

Your gonna praise me after you buy your 9800 or even a 9500

I had a FX 5600 U

I "downgraded" to an ATI 9500 Pro (overclocked)

IT BLOWS teh FX away
Go with ATI; Nvidia is dead. Look it up. the evidence is out there.
Go with the ATI.

Take it from somone who has had the nVidia your looking at.... Don't get it. I promise you. nVidia is curretnly working with MS just to get thier DX9 support correct.

I promise you ATI willl not let you down. The 9*00 PRO series are beasts.

i hate seeing poeple make the same mistake I did. nVidia is focused on thier motherboards now. The nforce2 are good athlon boards, but when it comes to GFX... nVidia is crap.

Not so long ago ATI cards started outpacing Nvidia. Nvidia seems to be playing catchup to ATI. I would buy ATI now if I was looking.

ati kicks ass. it's all i've owned for a while now. i'm running a 9700 pro 128mb. i've thought about upgrading, but i think i'll just wait until they come out with some of the new stuff on the horizon. nvidia's had a hard time lately keeping up with the 9700, let alone the 9800.

it seems the 9800 has very little improvements over the 9700, mostly just an overclocked 9700 core, with some enhancements i believe to the shader and hypertransport. not really much an oc'd 9700 couldn't keep up with.

i've also heard that the 256mb version doesn't really have a use for the 256mb of ram just yet, so that's probably not really worth it either.

9800 is an excellent card, but if you want similar performance and save a chunk of cash, get the 9700 pro.

if nvidia doesn't catch up soon, it's going to become a thing of the past

DEFINATELY get an ATI card. Nvidia used to be the king, but they've definately slipped a lot. I have an All-In-Wonder Radeon 9700 Pro and I love it. Some people used to rag on ATI's past drivers. I think that they've got the kinks worked outta that because they've been putting them out on a regular basis and they've been working perfectly for me.

I'd go for a 9800 Pro if money is no object. IF you're looking for an inexpesive card, head over to New Egg or Eebuy.com and pick up an Asus Ti4200 Nvidia card. I picked one up for a second system that I built from my older parts, it was only $123.50 SHIPPED from Eebuy.com and it has a kick ass bundle of games. It's a decent card for the lower end range. Even though it's only a ti4200, it's still better than a lot of the LOWER end Geforce FX cards..

As of right now ATI had the best cards Radeon 9800 Pro but the Catalyst 3.8 drivers seem to be overheating some of ATI's cards. Wed. the GeForce FX 5950 & 5700 should be coming out along with the Detonator 52.14 and 52.16 drivers. I have a GeForceFX 5200 and it runs just fine for me. But if you're a hardcore gamer I would go with the ATO Radeon 9800 Pro.

actually, if you're looking for cheap, gigabyte makes a decent ati card for about $100... it's a 9200 with 64mb ram, dvi and dsub i believe. i was thinking about grabbing that for a new machine. not stellar, but for a good workstation should do the trick just fine.

another note on the 9800's. i could be wrong on this, but most of the knockoffs like saphire, etc seem to follow the reference to a T. at least, in pictures they look basically identical to the ati version. personally, i have never bought a knock off ati, the gigabyte would be the first one. for perfomance, i always get the true ati's.

the drivers used to suck horribly for ati (i know, i used them then). but, the new catalyst series of drivers seem to be pretty good, i haven't any problems with the catalyst series. i think they finally got that fixed (knock on wood!).

Actually, if you REALLY want the best card, get a Radeon 9800XT - http://www.ati.com/gitg/index.html I almost bought one, but since I already have a 9700 Pro, I'm gonna wait until April/May for the next generation of cards to come out.

The nice thing about the Radeon 9800XT is that the card has a sensor on it and the ATI drivers are made so you can actually overclock the card safely because if it gets too hot, the drivers will cut back, I love that feature, I think that all card makers should do that. I know that myself I'm too afraid to overclock, but with those drivers, it'd make it safer for me to do

With the 9800XT, you'll be looking at about a $500 price tag though. I guess that on the plus side, the standard 9800 Pros should be dropped down a little in price.

Both produsts are solid BUT if you do plan on to do a little gaming, then I'd go with the ATI. I've read in the latest Maximum PC that nVidia's having big performance problems with the new Half Life 2 game scheduled to be released any month now.

Don't know if it's still this way, but for 2d picture quality (crispness, colors etc) Matrox was always #1 followed by ATI, and then 2 steps down were the Nvidia chip cards. Nvidia was usually a bit quicker in 3d games than ATI in the same price range.

I'm using an ATI gfx card now and don't have any problems with it.

9700 Pro looks nice with the benchmarks! Hmm, might get a new MB too!

i've got the nvidia geforce 4 with 128megs ram. its about a year and a half outdated but it runs every game that i have installed perfectly, and with all options/settings set to their highest. never had any problems driver wise.
