I've been married twice. Its got its good side and bad side like everything else in life.

I could write pages about it, but I think by just saying I've been there done that and not going back, you get my overall opinion on it.

Its an experience and an adventure for sure.

Its true. Don't let the succubus get you.

I have friends already on their second divorce. No clue why except I think they like to fuss over weddings and make a big deal. They love the attention and thrive on the drama.

"Look at me in my pretty white dress."

Its all a lie. The prettier the bride the bigger the whore.

If I ever get married I will be wearing black.

the fact that you get divorced once should be the answer,
women always change,

they keep changing and changing and changing . . .

I asked a buddy of mine about this and he said anything takes work.

So I digress... Should we really have to WORK at something? Or should it just WORK?

Friendships JUST work... Think about it. When you and your buddies get together you don't bitch you just have a good time. And you hang out whenever you are not forced to hang out.

On top of that if you decide that you don't like someone you just stop hanging out with them. No calls about where you've been. No guilt trips. Just don't hang out any more.

I am wondering if it is possible to reach that type of situation in a loving relationship. You hang out, give each other space, good sex and so on.

Ask yourself this...do I love this person enough to adjust the way I live in order to be able to give them a portion of your life?

Like anything else...it takes work...like work there are payoffs.

And like sand castle's on the beach...they can chafe. Eeer...I mean nothing's permanent. You can just as easily devote your life to someone without a marriage ceremony...maybe easy isn't the word of choice. But it doesn't take a marriage license to be devoted to someone...but the tax benefits aren't as good.

No girlfriend could possibly fuck me over as hard as a friend can.

What is the bitch gonna fuck one of my friends? Every girlfriend (of course except current) I ever had did that, nothing new and it dont hurt anymore. My heart cannot be broken anymore.

But let a friend fuck me over and ill be on the edge of the bed with my head in hand thinking 'what the fuck?' like I was a schoolboy hurting over dance hall pussy.

It's only a trap if you have the wrong girl.

If you're lucky like I'm lucky, you're good to go.

I've been married twice. I won't do it again. There's no need for marriage anymore unless you need to reap some sort of health insurance benefit or something like that. Goldie Hawn & Kurt Russell have been doing just fine for YEARS without getting married. My girlfriend and I have been together for four years and we are not, nor will ever be.... married. There's no reason to. It creates a complicated legal rat's nest. I don't think anyone needs a piece of paper signed by a judge to prove they love someone. And really.... what does it prove anyway? Lots of married people hate each other, and go on that way for years simply to avoid the divorce nightmare.

I guess the question here is do you have to be married to have this happiness? Or is it more like Amp's situation where happiness can be found anywhere and it is built between the people and not the paperwork.

it is all about who you marry and if they are the right person. If you marry the wrong person then it isn't going to work no matter how much effort is put into it. Marry the right person and even the bumpy times are better than being without them.

Well, marriage is more than paperwork. Unfortunately the state has gotten its hands into it, and thus it is sullied.

Marriage is a ceremony of commitment, it is two people making a divine promise to eachother. I don't think marriage in a technical sense is necessary no...neither I guess is the ceremony. However honoring it and proclaiming it to thoes you care for I think is...I know wmany people who have been married in wiccan or otherwise "Pagan" ceremonies...no paperwork or much of the hoopla traditionally expected of a marriage.

However, think of it this way...why is it about the act of marriage that puts you off? Meaning, do you feel marriage is the trap? Or the commitment part of it? I got into it with Labret the other night and we touched on this subject...if marriage or the commitment of it seems like a huge loss of personal freedom to you...then...maybe its not for you.

For me it is more watching about 90% of people marry people they are in no way a match for. I mean they figure just because we have been together for several years we should get married. So you have all these couples that should have broken up years before and moved on to find someone more their match staying together and then ending up miserable.

On top of that you have women or I should say girls who set a time line. If they are not married by a certain age their life is a failure. Or if they don't get this or that their wedding is a failure. Society has put too much pressure on something that should be a simple profession of not just love... But in my mind the more important factor. Caring. There are plenty of guys out there that love their wives and yet they beat them or cheat on them. If you truely CARE about someone you wouldn't do either of those things.

seems to me that 80%+ of the girls over 20 don't wanna get into a long term relationship if they know a marriage won't happen

Mine keeps talking about marriage, nochalantly of course, but the fact remains...she's still talking about it. It's time to sit her down and tell her that it's never gonna reach that level. And kids, no FUCKING WAY, I can't even take care of myself. Marriage is a dying institution, it really is pointless.

So true... I had my "dream wedding" with all the trimmings; everything I had imagined and dreamed up since I was 5 years old. And almost every day of the 6 years that followed that day were hell.

Now that I've found what I want with the person that I want, I don't need the wedding, or the paperwork that goes with it, to know that I am in love and am equally loved. Amp can be my boyfriend until I'm 95, but we will NEVER get married. And it's so comforting to know that I can be with someone who feels the same way.

I too have been there...done that...multiple times...and will not be repeating it again.

I'd like to see marriage statistics rated by country... I bet the USA has one of the highest rates of failure.

The moment you start asking this question to yourself first, then aloud to your friends, then to strangers... your marriage is already fucked. But when you post a thread on GFY about it asking for opinions... you're just plain crazy.
