digital cameras

my friends are going to mexico to stay for a few months, they asked for my recommendations on a digital camera. in the 300-400 dollar range.

any suggestions? and why?

is there a way to clean off the memory cards to a bigger storage medium without a computer present? as im sure they will take a lot of pics, but dont want to spend like a grand on cards. anyway around this?

i'd suggest like a canon elph. pretty good pictures, fairly cheap, and small. good durability as well.

you can buy something like an mp3 player sort of thing with a lappy hard drive in it to store the images on, you'll have to check around at prices. i think cameraworld carries a couple. no laptop needed, they usually come in like 10gb, 20, 30, etc.

Your best bet for storage would probably be to pick up a 1 gig Microdrive, which holds about 1000 pics at a decent resolution. As for the camera, I'd go with a Canon S50. Pocket size, yet takes very good looking pics for being a point and shoot.

You're right, or he could just get the Canon 1DS and the 4gb CF card and call it a day.

Fuji Fine Pix use ccd technology a 2 megapixel will look as good as other 4 megapixel cameras. I sold all brands could tell you what to buy but i have plenty of other camera and pc magazines that will recomend same thing for that kind of money. It is about value for money This here is a 2.0 megapixel example at default resolution http://www.jellywrestling.com/17.jpg model 2800z 8x optical zoom 10x digital zoom the replacement model is 3.2 megapixel and would fit the budget.

that lists several. there are some more i think, i saw some reviews or something in one of my american photo, but i'm not sure where that is.

there's also archos, which is primarily an mp3 player. but, if you get a CF reader, it will do the same thing. probably one of hte more expensive ones tho.

oh yeah, i _believe_ the ipod can also be used as a storage device such as the one i was just talking about, with the appropriate adapter. you might check that out, kill two birds with one stone.
