i second that

it's not easy being a fan for when they lose, you wonder why steinbrenner spent all that money.

yankees need to win this to make up for their loss to az in 01. im still baffeled over that.

I actually talked about Mattingly in another thread.

Quoting myself-
"Donnie baseball was the best!!!

It was never fair to him, he played so hard and was so good and the Yankees didn't win a World Series series for him..."

My favorite all-time Yankee. He was a class act for sure. He's a hitting coach now right? He's gotten his ring.

I'm a huge Yankee fan. Went to my first game at Yankee Stadium when I was six. It was Bat Day. The bat was as big as I was. The Mick hit a home run. The place was like a cathedral when I walked in. I thought I needed to bow or something before I sat down.
But I have a funny feeling about the way this whole thing is set up right now. The two most long suffering franchises in the history of sport--the Red Sox and Cubs--are just one series away from the World Series. And I'm a huge Marlin fan since I live down here. I'm a real fan. I go to several games a year, not just now when the bandwagon is in full motion.
I hope I'm wrong but I think the Red Sox and Cubs wind up in the World Series. You have to know the baseball gods want that one.

Mattingly is not a hitting coach and did not get a ring.
He is a special instructer during spring training and when thats over he returns to his horse farm in Indiana.
The Yankees drafted his oldest son this year, he went to class A ball.

As a child i grew up at most of the local sporting events (come on i had 3 older brothers...). Anyways, my Dad had a hookup with the Yankees and when they used to come down to Fort Lauderdale for spring training one of his friends would bring us in thru the players parking lot and then were allowed to roam as pleased thru the dugout, and such. Man was that exciting! My bro and i were just little toe heads, I was 5 and he was 6. I will never forget the sheer size of some of them.. for me Dave Winfield may as well been a giant. Ricky Henderson with his badass baby blue mercedes and big grin. My idol however was Don Mattingly, he was my God. I am pretty sure he was my first crush.... i told my Dad i would someday marry him...

Anyways, one day while my brother and i were hanging around a guy came up and asked my Dad if it would be ok for him to take us back to his trailer for some goodies (since it was spring training they used trailiers as offices). I was ultra shy at the time and not to happy about my Dad letting us be taken by a stranger.
Turns out the big guy was Steinbrenner and he thought my brother and i were "the most adorable Yankee fans". He gave us both Yankees jackets- the ones the players wore (i still have mine).
It's the picture that is priceless.. my Dad took it of Steinbrenner inbetween my brother and i, but i was so shy and nervous that instead of standing next to Steinbrenner i clutched on to his leg.

The Yanks win the World Series and i am wearing that jacket here to work.....

I don't know but he was a great guy when I was a kid. My dad used to sell baseball cards and I'd help him vend at shows. People like mattingly, mantle, mays, berra, rizzuto and a whole lot more used to go to the big shows in atlantic city and places like that to sign autographs. They were always willing to chat with a kid and they were GREAT guys. I liked Mattingly more because he was my time. I grew up with him.

Can you feel it? The curses have taken over in both League Championship Series. It's all over but the lamentation of the women now, people.

Cubs = finished.
Red Sox = done.

Yankees over Marlins in 6.

27 World Series Championships!

Hate to tell my age, but when I was 7-8 my father would take me to Yankee Stadium a few times a year. They would also show the games on TV.
To All REAL Yankee Fans, (no band Wagan newbies) Here was the typical lineup. WHAT YEAR WAS IT?

1. Jerry Kenney 3B
2. Roywhite RF
3. Thurman Munson C
4. Bobby Murcer CF
5. Horace Clark 2B
6. Ron Swaboda LF
7. Gene (The Stick) Michael SS
8. John Ellis 1B
9. Mel Stottlemyre P

Hint. The ended up in LAST place. I loved them then when they were losing as I do now that they are winning.

Fuck all you fucking October baseball newbies that try to put in your 2 cents just because you can read a fucking newspaper.

Yankees in 6
