when i was in hawaii, we did a chopper ride. Amp can help me with this - the area has the most rain of anywhere in the world i believe. volcano area, far away from maui, etc. cant' think of the name.

yeah, over on the windward sides of the islands it rains all the time.... everything is super green and lush... tropical rainforest type stuff. But over here on the leeward, (and especially this island) it rains in January and maybe once or twice the rest of the year for like, five minutes. It's already stopped here.... not sure if that was even five minutes... lol... oh well, maybe it'll start up again for a bit... I was enjoying it...

sure...

this is a pic I took of Hana Highway over on the windward side a few years ago....

and this is Wailea where I'm at on the leeward....

stays pretty green over here considering the lack of rain, but everything is watered several times daily. My own sprinkler system runs 4 times a day just to keep the trees and plants from getting baked.

yeah Hilo is big time tropical rain forest stuff... windward side of the Big Island. Was just over there last weekend, but in Kona on the leeward. Wanted to do the volcano flyover, but would've had to drive to Hilo, and that was more miles than I wanted to go..... but next time I go over there I'll take the flyover.

yeah! hilo was cool shit. not many tourists, pretty quiet place.

did an hour long chopper ride. flew over peoples homes that had been destroyed via lava flow. steam in some places, lava flowing everywhere. amazing.

it's a national park, so you can go up there, but I'm not sure how much hiking is allowed because there's some protected plants that can't be touched, and also the observatory that you can't get near. But yeah.... they do bike rides down the volcano every morning.... 38 miles all downhill.
