most = all except Porsche

They all made an agreement in the 80's to limit their cars to 250 km/h (155 mph). Porsche didn't join this agreement.

It's no problem to get an unlimited version of most cars though.

sacX 10-15-2003 02:04 AM

driving fast is pretty exhilirating.. at 150mph it's also pretty irresponsible imo..

jollyperv 10-15-2003 02:11 AM

Every weekend here, there are 100s of douche-bags with crotch rocket rentals, popping wheelies on the interstate at 80+ miles an hour. Such a sickening lack of respect for human life. And every weekend at least one of them gets killed. Good.

Nathan 10-15-2003 02:24 AM

All German Cars are limited to 155mph electronically.

But please remember, that every single german car company has deals with tuners. Like AMG with the Benz. If you get a AMG Mod Chip which removes the limiting your Warrenty is NOT voided! Heck, you can buy the fucking chips when buying the car at the Dealer normally.

Same goes for AUDIs. A mod chip that does not void the warrenty of for example an RS6 but removes the limit costs around 1500 US.

i'm quite sure you are wrong. it depends which country the car is sold in.

WRONG !

BMW, Audi, Mercedes, etc... all except Porsche!
and you can fairly easy have the electronic limiter removed for a few $$.

btw.. fastest i ever went in my carrera was 296km/h which is 184mph. (3am in the morning when the highway was completely empty)

but as quiet said i prefer twisty roads as well :)

makefuckingmoney 10-15-2003 04:37 AM

Fastest I got my Mercedes was 142.. maybe my big ass..or better.. maybe my big penis!
:thumbsup

makefuckingmoney 10-15-2003 04:37 AM

Jag I had was governed about the same speed...i think slightly lower.

Chris

nasko 10-15-2003 05:12 AM

I've done 300km/h in my Porsche once. It's was very exciting!

nasko 10-15-2003 05:15 AM

300km/h = 187.5mph

Dude, get over the talking shit about someone and pay attention for 5 minutes. When your car is electronically limited to a speed when you hit that speed your motor quits pumping hp. Yes you can get a new computer and take off the regulator which I'm sure your friend did.

You went 160 on the highway. I believe you. Congrats for being a dumbass. :thumbsup

160mph was enough - lol

one thing amazed me, often when I came up on a trucker real fast outa nowhere often the asshole would move into the center of the road forcing me to slow down. I was amazed that they'd actually do that - seemed like a real asshole thing to do but Mark told me they do it all the time there.

has this happened to anyone else or is it just a florida thing?

Sleazy, You should try and come to Germany and drive on the Auto Bahn. Speeds like that are quite common there, and no worries about the cops. They are taught from the word go, to stay out of the passing lanes. I will think of you when I am on there tomorrow :Graucho

True, Porsches are not. The only reason cars are limited in germany though (as far as I understand) is taxes.. Since taxes go up a lot when it can go over 250km/h

Hunter_ST 10-15-2003 05:42 AM

Go to the race track...

And well said, POV Porn guy.

Sloane 10-15-2003 05:44 AM

Quiet, what stopped you from going for the twin turbo model? Not that there is anything wrong with the C4S :)

Ross 10-15-2003 05:56 AM

Fastest I've ever driven a car is probably about 120MPH

Fastest I have ever gone when being in a car is around 140MPH

I did 120 in a Golf GTI:

http://www.videosboard.com/front4.jpg

And I was in the car with someone else driving it doing 140 as well!

Not too fast compared to some but still well over the speed limit

25hp on most cars won't do a whole lot. 3-4mph maybe, i'd guess. 25ft-lbs wouldn't really even be that noticable, but just a little bit.

on the mercedes, yeah, most cars you just get a different chip or plug in a programmer, and you're all set.

i used to speed a lot, especially right out of high school. don't anymore, i learned my lesson in speeding tickets.

fastest i've gone was 140 in my little celica. that was a fast little car.

the most fun was 125 in the rain. at 110, the windsheild wipers are useless. but it was sure fun. the car was a US alltrac version. shouldn't have sold that car :(

when i lived out of town, i used to cruise to work at 110 every day. it was great, made a 30 minute commute a 10 minute commute.

but, no more speeding. empty mountain roads, or tracks. that's where i'd keep it. anymore, even on the interstate i don't go more than 10 over. especially in town, 5 over at the most. i'm never in that much of a hurry to get anywhere anymore.

Nathan,

You know where I can get a mod chip for my Saab 9-3 Viggen. It's limited to 155 and I know it can do more:thumbsup

BTW, I've only had it to 145!

Bulldog-Johnnie 10-15-2003 07:19 AM

A couple of years ago I went to Ft Lauderdale two days after doing a Dinan Stage III upgrade to my M3. Set my onboard copmuter to record my top speed and got to 184mph. Was the fastest I have ever been in a car or bike. I can't wait to do it again. Maybe Mike will take me out in his new Saleen S7 and we can top that....

yep..stupid morons...

acting all "cool" while risking others peoples lives...shit want to showoff go to a proper track or something like that...

Rochard 10-15-2003 07:47 AM

Some mentioned tickets before.....

In 1995 in my Mustang GT I got nailed doing 130MPH. I was written up for exceeding 100MPH, got a $600 ticket, and two points on my DL (out of a possible four points).

I also got pulled over last month on my bike. I was doing about 120MPH coming onto the freeway. The officer wrote me up for 80MPH+.

Rochard 10-15-2003 07:50 AM

After thinking about it, someone mentioned accidents as well.

I had an accident when I was 17 - My car spung out, did a 360, and hit an oncoming car head on. Both cars were destroyed and I was lucky no one was killed.

I've laid down a few bikes but only at slower speeds.

On the freeway down the road from my house every is going 80MPH, pretty much packed in like sardines. You have an accident at that speed you are pretty much dead because you'll be hit by a dozen other cars.

And a blowout on a motorcycle at any speed over 60MPH can kill you.

If it doesnt modify gear ratio, top speed is likely to be the same. You just get there faster ;)

DirtyDanza 10-15-2003 08:16 AM

217mph on my R1 and around 180 in a race car.... I race SCCA solo 1 and 2.....

Sharky 10-15-2003 08:47 AM

I keep asking MikeAI when he will let me drive his SL55.
To be honest, I'd be too scared I would scratch it!

lol

He did take me out and we were up to 130 in no time.. then it started to rain so we slowed down.
It's certainly a nice fucking car!

nasko 10-15-2003 01:18 PM

SL55 does 335km/h without speed limiter. It blows Ferraris and Lamborghinis off the road in longer sprints.

SL55 does 0-300 in 32,5 seconds. The Ferrari 550 Maranello does it in 61,2, Porsche 911 GT2 in 40,9, Lambo Murcielago in 34,2. :)

GTS Mark 10-15-2003 01:26 PM

I've seen Mark's car, and I know Mark. That car will do 160mph if the car wants to or not! LOL!

DH

SleazyDream 10-15-2003 01:32 PM

I'm still laughing at how some of the guys in this thread that don't own or ever will even drive a nice car think they know everything cause they read some factory specs in a car magazine.........

Get real... it's only fun because it's dangerous. But, just imagine how scary it would be if your wife & kids lives were threatened on the way home from your family reunion by some selfish overgrown computer geek with an inferiority complex trying to impress his fellow GFY-ers. Go to a racetrack, that way you wont kill anyone that wasn't chasing god anyways.:2 cents:

It's always a blast until you run into a sedan from behind and kill the families newest addition. Then it's too late.
