Apartments in Boston?

One of my relatives in Boston has to find a new apartment by the end of the month. The building he was living in was recently sold.

Here are the relevant specs:
- Middle aged single male
- Long term police officer
- Must allow dogs
- Must be within city limits of Boston
- Rent approximately $700/month

He's already trying the newspaper and various real estate agents. Any other suggestions for where he could look?

700/mo? Not happening. unless he moves to roxbury, dorchester or brockton or one of the other ghetto's. Then he'll still even prob pay more for that too.. sorry ... In the outskirts of boston he may get something around a grand - 1200 in a decent area. Revere, saugus or braintree, weymouth etc..

$700/mo? Unless he's willing to move in with a roommate forget it.
the real estate prices in boston are outrageous.

Waltham, Quincy, Revere, malden, medford and everett are some of the cheaper areas but you're still looking at about $1k/month for something livable, and still a 20 minute driving commute to downtown boston.

That's how I found my current apartment by posting that I'm looking for a place. It's free to post and they give you an anonymous email so you dont have to get phone calls or anything.

good luck to him
