'The case asks whether, in the name of children, Congress wants to restrict too much material that adults have the right to see or buy. On a more practical level, the court will decide whether the government can require some form of an adults-only screening system to ensure children cannot see material deemed harmful to them.'
We had this thing called AVS until they wanted to get rid of that too.

So, what if the Supreme court rules that credit cards are acceptable age identification?

this was the line I thought most interesting..
"Olson said the main target is commercial pornographers who use sexually explicit "teasers" to lure customers. The free teasers are available to nearly anyone surfing the Internet, children and adults alike. The pictures sometimes appear even when computer users are not seeking out pornography." What would be considered a "teaser"? Banners? TGPS? or.....? |

No matter what they decide is permissible for age verification, if you have hardcore in your tours you are not going to be in compliance most likely.
I suspect the TGP model is going to change to a subscription based service or go away alltogether. But then they havent even considered Usenet and have only made noise about P2P porn.

one of the easiest ways to keep minors (and others not interested in adult) off your adult sites is get them listed with ICRA:
http://www.icra.org/labelv02.html in this way anyone can set their browser filter settings so THEY NEVER EVEN SEE YOUR PAGES---this protects their kids. and, the responsible webmaster NEVER uses unsolicited email to promote porn.

This would all be wunnerful if the internet was only in the U.S.
Such laws might make a dent, but would by no means fix the problem.. |

How many times have free speech lawyers won, only to have these idiots in the government push the exact same unconstitutional laws again?
There is a recent problem with this case. The credit card companies seem to have said that they will not accept being used as an age verification system. They have also seem to want to kill AVS systems, yet this case is asking the Supreme Court to say that people must use an AVS or credit card to prove they are over 18. The court isn't being asked to make the credit card companies become AVS systems, only to allow law enforcement to arrest anyone who doesn't use an AVS. Yet AVS may no longer exist, so if they ruled in favor of the government, I'm not sure what would happen. We will have to find out what Kimmy thinks. ![]() |
