my school blocks ftp or something

the connection at my college isn't that great and sometimes it blows, but right now with most people still at home for the long weekend its fine.

before i figured it was just the terrible connection but even now I can barely connect to my sites through ftp, or through the online control panel.

is my school somehow blocking the ports i would normally use to connect to my sites, and is there anything i can do about it, because obviously this royally blows.

Repeat after me: "Do you want to supersize that for only 39 cents more?"

"Is that for here or to go?" is another smart career tip.

How about the always hard-hitting "do you want fries with that?"

Trust me...these are the types of things you should be concerning yourself with.

That's a good one to know.

I've had good luck with "can I get a manager to register 8?" as well.

Damn, all these trade secrets out in the open. I hope this fucker appreciates it.

If you can connect to your server VIA FTP then the port is probably not blocked...

What exactly is your problem; what do you mean by "barely connect to my sites through ftp"?

Your university might have a firewall that you have to setup in your FTP software configuration. Some require u/p information and some might be configured open.

You can try "passive transfer" mode and see if that helps. Even better, try SSH.

i can connect maybe half of the time, but then moving through directories is very slow, and uploads take a very long time. It usually hangs up or times out eventually.

i am guessing maybe ftp is severely capped to prevent people from downloading large illegal files.
