sex.us is register to someone in the US, but the domain itself is control by ePropertyLLC, which is in New Zealand.

I got some good one word and 3 letters .us domains if anyone is interested.

i think they are decent for SEO work. Personally wouldnt use them for anything else.

It's not registrar specific or TLD specific. The reason that .us SE spammer is using .US domains is because they are dirt cheap which makes for some low cost volume registrations. If another TLD was cheaper, that spammer would be using them as well.
