Few people in this biz have them, not going to mention any names. Mine is only platinum.

It's a pretty big step up from the Platinum card. Basically, you're pre-approved for home loans up to a certain amount, limo service to airports, free car rentals, free airline upgrades and loads of other stuff. It's a stiff $2,500 a year but you get a free Platinum card with it as well. Accounts vary on your net worth. It's worth it if you buy a lot of property. No appraisal fees, low closing costs, etc.

You cannot apply for this card, your AMEX financial advisor will offer it to you in due time. You must have at least an 800 FICO score.

most rich people dont have 800 fico scores

I know a few who do in this biz, trust me.

$150k is nothing to charge a year. I could do that easily. The 800 FICO, well I am not close. I know people who charge $100k + a month to amex, easy.

A buddy of mine has one. 20 years old and he's already balling with the big boys. Nothing like being born into wealth. :thumbsup

I make more cash in real estate than this business by far in terms of profit over time and per year. BTW - 800 FICO score can only be obtained through years of perfect credit and smart business decisions. IE...You never miss a bill or carry many balances, buy properties, then sell them working your way up to buy commercial properties like the gentleman above eluded to. I know many wealthy people who have shit credit scores around 700 or less which is considered decent. It all depends on how you play the game.

Took me nine months with an average of $19k spending (most of which was business related) per month on my Amex Platinum. They didn't send me an invitation (probably were waiting a bit longer since I hear they usually want to see you spend that much for at least a year). But I did keep pestering them with letters and phone calls. Eventually they sent me an invitation.

It's widely known that you need an average of $150k/year spending on your Amex Plat before they'll even consider you. The FICO score really isn't as much of an issue if you've been timely with your $150k/year worth of payments (since there is no interest charges and bills must be paid in full). Obviously that's all within reason. If you have a score of 550 they aren't going to give you an American Express Centurion Card. :P

50 Amex Blacks!

FYI, for those who were just about to ask. My score was 755 when I got it. Score's higher now though.

Mine was 792...Got it 2 months ago. I spent 180K on AMEX last year and more this year. My AMEX financial advisor recommended I get it. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't have heard of the damn thing. It's useful for what I do with it and worth the $2,500 for several reasons. Did they give you a Platinum card for free with it? I requested that as I don't like to carry around the black card, only on certain trips.

100k no fee visa platinum covers me for now.

The real estate perks on the amex are very cool though...:thumbsup

Nice thread guys, it has proven to be a useful filter. The bottom line on everything that was said above is this.

Anybody that has a Black, Platinum or even Gold card has most likely worked their ass off to get it unless Daddy gave it to you. And anyone that knows AMEX will gladly pay their annual fees, simply because AMEX saves you loads of time and headaches. The time factor alone MAKES me more money. The rewards and all the extra perks associated with AMEX is just gravy as far as I'm concerned.

It's good to see some hard working people out there.:thumbsup

Geographical issue. ALL Los Angeles girls know what one is. I actually think the #1 perq of having one is supposed to be the LA model types who come with it.

I had an AMEX Gold for a number of years, and they sent me the Platinum pre-approval letters every other week for about 6 months because I spent so much with it. I found it odd that they always advertised "no pre determined spending limit", but it seemed like every month I exceeded maybe three or four grand on the card, I'd get a letter saying something to the effect that I've exceeded the undetermined limit amount. Hahaha. That was always amusing.

Never had that problem one bit regarding spending too much. Spent over 10 grand a month on my Gold when I had it. Never got any invitations for the Platinum until they just gave it to me about 2 years ago. Looks like they target on a person to person basis.

So is that to say you got the Platinum for free? Lucky ass :) I just couldn't justify spending that much on a card. It's not like I'd ever use the conceirge service, which was the main feature.

Yes, only the first year was free. They stuck me for $300 (I believe it's $399 now for new customers) a year which I thought was worth it. Just the insurance, free deliveries and 90 Day product guarantee on anything you buy with it pays for itself. AMEX is the only credit card I pay annual fees on for both business and personal cards.

Now I pay $2,500 for the black and they give me the Platinum for free as I requested it. Don't like to carry around the black.

Besides, the fees are write offs anyway.
