Thinking of going to Amsterdam
I'd like to check it out - never been.
I'm sure some of you have been there, any advice on where to stay and what to do while I'm there. I checked on a plane ticket - $495 from Columbia SC that seems pretty damn cheap to me |

The Grand Krasnapolsky is a very nice hotel, and its stumbling distance into the Redlight District.
The coffee shops have terrible coffee, and the guys at the "smart shops" aren't very smart, but you might enjoy visiting them anyway. (wink wink) And from what I'm told, the girls behind the red windows are much more than lingerie models. Just remember this, it will save you --- "BLUE LIGHT BAD!!!" We were just there for 2 full weeks, its hard to leave Amsterdam once you get there! Steve Lightspeed

Amsterdam is one of my most favorite cities in the world. I suggest going in summertime when it's warm and the trees have leaves on them and everybody is out and about and the cafes are full of people sitting by the canals watching the boats float by.

Krasnopolsky it nice for Amsterdam but don't compare it to american hotels. If you want to save some $$$ try a hostel like the Bulldog only a couple blocks away. Try to stay near Dam square which is central to much of fun stuff. The reason not to go in wintertime is its DAMN cold and you'll be sloshing around in the snow. It's definately a walkabout city.
