    Why is skimming so popular?!?

Why is it that the overall opinion is that skimming is positive thing; effective and morally ok. While at the same time people are talking nothing but bad about (too much) blind links? Skimming is in fact just a moderate form of blind linking: the surfer clicks because he wants to see the gallery but then he's directed to something else.

I don't like blind links, because I would like my surfers to return and click my links because they know they lead to quality sites. Therefore I (hardly) use blind links. For that same reason I don't skim. But when I look at other sites how they manage to keep their trades up I notice they all depend on skimming! So when I'm asking myself; how can I generate more out hits? , the only thing I learn from colleages is that skimming is necessary to trade nowadays! Do you guys feel the same?

Also I don't understand how skimming can work so effectively as it seems to work when i look at the whole picture. 9 out of 10 surfers (if not more) close *immediately* when they are skimmed, am i right? how can productivity-based scripts (as is the standard nowadays) keep such trades running? productivity at the site that the surfers are sent to must be *really* bad!

Input concerning these issues appreciated here...

9 in 10 close the new site immediately, but the ones that stick around click a lot (like 10 times). Skimming is not necessary to trade though... I have a site that trades with skimming sites but only sends out non-skimmed traffic itself. My trades typically send about 5 times as much traffic back as I send out, and they're quite happy with that because my real traffic is extremely productive. I, on the other hand, am also quite happy with it, because the traffic I get converts very nicely to bookmarkers.
So no, skimming is not necessary.
