ever feel like to exist on a different plain than other people?

just got back from a script writing class that I do once a week. We had to write a scene that used personal jargon, status games, and side conversations. He also wanted us to play with less conventional settings.

So, I put my characters waiting in line in an alley waiting for a concert and they are talking about mosh pitting and basiclly mocking a guy with a mullet.

The scene is read out in class. The tutor says that it is very good but what is a mullet...also, what is a mosh pit. One person in the entire class knew what a mosh pit was , which as some of the class is older I could sort of understand but not one person knew what a mullet was.

These are things that come up in regular conversation for me. *shrug*

Do they have mullets in the UK?

Maybe they're just not used to seeing tight-stonewashed-jeans-wearing-Firebird-driving-mullet-haired-freaks in London.

This is why I hang out with old people on a regular basis -- they have lots of quirky language and knowledge that will just be lost if you don't listen or give a shit...

But they benefit from learning about mosh pits, etc... that's why these group activities that aren't age-specific are so cool...

Have you ever kicked ass in a soccer riot? If I end over there I'm planning to engage in all the harmless violent activities they keep us from in America.

I know what you mean, Sarah.

I had written a horror story for a creative writing story class in college. I had the hero slash at the monster's neck. The teacher commented that the monster should be dead since tit must have hit the juglar vein. The other students were trying not to laugh because I had stated earlier in the story that the monster was a zombie and hard to kill.

Then there was the incident when I wrote the science fiction story that totally confused the teacher...

well as there hasn't been a riot in a game in the UK since I got here 7 years ago I wouldn't know. The images most Americans see and ASSUME was a riot was Hillsborough in 1989 and was a stadium tragedy that came from over crowding and fences where many people were killed.

There was one street fight between fans in my area last year at a Millwall game - their fans have the worst reps and they were playing a team who have to be runners up.

That's kinda lame. Whenever the old punk rock guys come to NYC they make it sound like it's crazy over there.

Well then, how is it over there? Here as soon as a fight breaks out you've got a bouncer on your ass within 3 seconds.

Everyone's so scared to throw a punch here, it's no wonder we eventually snap and shoot each other all the time.

they are pretty good at stopping stuff here but there is a bit of a thing starting up between goth/alterna/skater kids and the hip hop fans. Fights, etc going on.

If I am around with a guy he gets me out of the way as soon as things look like they might kick off so I don't see much.

Well, okay, then im the one in the alternate plane of exsistance. I saw "script" and im assuming its a programming script. Im thinking, why would you need a programming script to include mullets?
