WOW, what a great thread (well most of it anyway).

For those keeping track, we received 2 donations into our paypal account in the last 24 hours. One from candyflip for $19.85 and one from magicmike for $1000. To both of you, I say THANK YOU!

For those of you that have donated previously and have not received the recognition that you DEFINITELY deserve, my apologies, that recognition will be coming shortly. I am the CFO of the IMPA and the lack of recognition is entirely my fault. In addition to my duties with the IMPA, I am also a member of the defense group (my streaming company www.ademia.com is one of the defendants fighting this to the end), and I have my other companies to run as well. I could offer the excuse that there are just not enough hours in the day, but as someone famous pointed out once, there are the same number of hours there have always been, so that would be a lame excuse.

To everyone that has donated money to this fight, whether it be $1, or $10,000, I say THANK YOU! A more formal, public thank you will be coming soon.

I ask that if you have donated money and you DO NOT wish to be recognized, please contact me and let me know.

To those of you that have donated your time (fight this patent), I also offer my thanks both personally and on behalf of the IMPA and the defense group.

Let's keep fighting the good fight, for the benefit of us all!

Hello all,

With my post at: http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showth...hreadid=184141

I have started the Pledge Drive for the formation of Fight The Patent Foundation. I am looking to raise $250,000 in pledges to be able to form this non-profit (501c3) organization.

There are some major differences between IMPA's efforts and FTPF's efforts.

IMPA is an association that is looking out for all kinds of issues that will affect webmaster's business. Patents are just one part of what they are addressing.

FTPF is only focused on patents and patent abuse cases, whether to help invalidate patents directly at the USPTO or to assist defendants in litigation with prior art and expert witness testimony.

As you read about FTPF, you will see there is a novel way that I intend to get experts to come forward to help.

It may or may not come a surprise to you, but many people in the mainstream don't like the adult industry, and actually applaud Acacia's efforts becuase they read articles in mainstream media that talks about "patents on porn" and other nonsense. When i tell people that Acacia is also targeting schools and universities like Seton Hall, they stop their chuckling.

FTPF's efforts are to spread the word in mainstream, to wake up the experts that could help provide testimony and prior art, and compensate them, not by paying them money, but by donating money to their favorite charity in their name... this is based on the idea of "Paying it Forward".

In that respect, you can think of FTPF as being a subset of what IMPA does, but i don't want to be under their umbrella, because FTPF is looking to go to mainstream to get the experts involved, raise donations from companies like Apple, Real Networks, MS, yahoo, aol, sony, etc... and not to be stigmatised as being an "adult industry organization".

When you go to my site to read more about FTPF, on the Endorsements page, you will find a show of support by Far-L for FTPF.

There is a great synergy between IMPA and FTPF. We both are looking to protect webmaster's right to have audio/video on their websites. Our approaches are very different since FTPF is narrowly focused on patents and IMPA is broadly focused on all business issues.

Please post in this thread: http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showth...hreadid=184141

You will also find a post i made about an adult industry player that has patents on exit consoles!

Now back to your regularly scheduled thread...

Fight the Patent!

We must be over half way now!

Nice idea Quiet. C'mon people, open up those wallets. Every little bit helps.

Tipsy 10-09-2003 10:01 AM

Roll up....roll up....make your pledges here!

FreeFastHost 10-09-2003 10:08 AM

I never use paypal, but I just looked and I have $9.05 left in my account, so I'll donate that.

I already donated a few months ago too.

JFPdude 10-09-2003 10:14 AM

1.) Whats the paypal address to donate to.

2.) Please give some information out to the smaller webmasters that can be affected on this. IE: how it can affect a smaller webmaster and not just the big companies that are being targetted now.

I ask this because all I see to this point is people asking for money but not giving out any information on how it affects the little guys and I search but couldn't find a paypal address without giving all my information to impa.

We all understand how it affects the big guys ... but not many people are seeing how it's affecting the little guys because acacia isn't targetting them YET.

Sharpie 10-09-2003 10:27 AM

JFP dude - anything that affects the 'big guys - affects the 'little guys! Just follow the money - or the 'lack of it.

Most of us survive off the money that comes from the 'big guys in one way or another. Sponsor programs, traffic trades, content sales, and the list goes on...

It really has been explained many, many times though. First off if you use video anywhere on your own sites you owe them a min of $1500 a year (according to them). Secondly if any sponsor you are using gets hit by them (not talking the BS sweetheart deals that have been going on) it may have a huge impact on their profits and thus ability to pay you the same that they are now.

Then add to that the other companies waiting in line behind them to do the same and things start to get very worrying.

Tipsy 10-09-2003 10:39 AM

Mind you - all that said what the hell's all the fuss about? It seems that SexEd 'won't report' so Acacia are totally shafted. Things were going well for them until then.

Buwahahahaha

anyways that wasn't my point at all ...

I understand that anything that affects the big guys affect the smaller guys.

I was just suggesting that some of that info be leaked here for the smaller webmasters to find and make it easy on them to donate.

anyways people the paypal address is: [email protected]

Send what you can because as it has been said it affects all of us big and small.

quiet: add another 50 dollars to the fund ...

Tipsy 10-09-2003 10:54 AM

Seems the info really is there though and has been posted here lots too. For the most part people either ignore it or gloss over it because as we all know if you ignore something it always goes away - right? :glugglug

Still, nice to see that people are finally starting to take it seriously. It'll be interesting to see how many more idiots will choose to ignore the next round of court cases and be closed down because of it.

What a crazy situation though! For this to happen at all shows how fucked up the current system really is.

Paul Markham 10-09-2003 10:57 AM

I gave $200 to www.fightthepatent.com tonight so $200 to www.impai.org is on it's way.

Will try to do some content deals with the money going to the fight.

Paul Markham 10-09-2003 11:01 AM

Why don't they make it like a membership site with people donating monthly, they could get more that way.

How about one of the CC processors setting it up?

It'd also be a great idea if some of the sponsors that are fighting them had the option in stats to have a small % of all earnings donated directly. It shouldn't be that hard to do and people tend to miss money far less when it's deducted at source and not already in their grubby little mitts.

Honeyslut 10-09-2003 11:35 AM

I will donate $ 100 and put you in my sig !:)

IT will be from [email protected]

:thumbsup

Or put our banner up on their site and earn 20% off all the clients who come from it.

Honeyslut 10-09-2003 11:43 AM

Money sent ! Sig changed !

Good idea.

How about a membership site that costs a certain affordable amount (so the little guys can get in on it, too) and content guys could pledge their support by offering free content and/or content discounts to members every month. That way, the little guys who have trouble just affording content would feel more justified in pledging their support because they wouldn't JUST be donating money but they'd be getting the content they need, too. Just a though. It might help get more of the little guys involved and it would give a way for content providers to pledge their support.

I have already donated a little a few weeks ago, and right now I'm saving up for the monster of Photoshop CS ($649 plus shipping!), but you can count on another donation from me soon. I was about to open a paysite and I've had to hold it off now because I REFUSE to give one red cent to Acacia's extortionist group and I really don't want to run a paysite that has only pictures. I'm mad as hell that I have to put my plans on hold because I've been buying content for this site for YEARS now, struggling and scrimping and saving, and now that I have enough content to open it I can't afford to because I can't (or won't) pay $1500 to a bunch of extortionists. The sooner this ship goes down, the sooner I can get back to business. :)

I will also try to donate to FightThePatent soon. Good luck, guys. We're all counting on ya :)

I think this is an excellent idea.. I mean, we're all accustomed to having $20 here or there taken out. I sure wouldn't miss it..

L0stMind 10-09-2003 05:35 PM

I only have a new paypal account, so until I am verified I am limited in what I can send. Since I already used the paypal account to give some people money, I could only send $325 US over...

I dont actually own any video sites, but some of my clients I host do... as I make my living from them, I think I owe it to help fund the defence against Acacia.

So, $325 sent...

tootie 10-09-2003 06:43 PM

Way to go, everyone!

Bumping again for the cause :)

swami 10-09-2003 07:59 PM

$200 here
Can someone posts the paypal email address again?

Ok done.

JMM 10-09-2003 08:01 PM

You bet...

crockett 10-09-2003 08:25 PM
