Mind you - all that said what the hell's all the fuss about? It seems that SexEd 'won't report' so Acacia are totally shafted. Things were going well for them until then.

Buwahahahaha

anyways that wasn't my point at all ...

I understand that anything that affects the big guys affect the smaller guys.

I was just suggesting that some of that info be leaked here for the smaller webmasters to find and make it easy on them to donate.

anyways people the paypal address is: [email protected]

Send what you can because as it has been said it affects all of us big and small.

quiet: add another 50 dollars to the fund ...

Tipsy 10-09-2003 10:54 AM

Seems the info really is there though and has been posted here lots too. For the most part people either ignore it or gloss over it because as we all know if you ignore something it always goes away - right? :glugglug

Still, nice to see that people are finally starting to take it seriously. It'll be interesting to see how many more idiots will choose to ignore the next round of court cases and be closed down because of it.

What a crazy situation though! For this to happen at all shows how fucked up the current system really is.

Paul Markham 10-09-2003 10:57 AM

I gave $200 to www.fightthepatent.com tonight so $200 to www.impai.org is on it's way.

Will try to do some content deals with the money going to the fight.

Paul Markham 10-09-2003 11:01 AM

Why don't they make it like a membership site with people donating monthly, they could get more that way.

How about one of the CC processors setting it up?

It'd also be a great idea if some of the sponsors that are fighting them had the option in stats to have a small % of all earnings donated directly. It shouldn't be that hard to do and people tend to miss money far less when it's deducted at source and not already in their grubby little mitts.

Honeyslut 10-09-2003 11:35 AM

I will donate $ 100 and put you in my sig !:)

IT will be from [email protected]

Or put our banner up on their site and earn 20% off all the clients who come from it.

Money sent ! Sig changed !

Good idea.

How about a membership site that costs a certain affordable amount (so the little guys can get in on it, too) and content guys could pledge their support by offering free content and/or content discounts to members every month. That way, the little guys who have trouble just affording content would feel more justified in pledging their support because they wouldn't JUST be donating money but they'd be getting the content they need, too. Just a though. It might help get more of the little guys involved and it would give a way for content providers to pledge their support.

I have already donated a little a few weeks ago, and right now I'm saving up for the monster of Photoshop CS ($649 plus shipping!), but you can count on another donation from me soon. I was about to open a paysite and I've had to hold it off now because I REFUSE to give one red cent to Acacia's extortionist group and I really don't want to run a paysite that has only pictures. I'm mad as hell that I have to put my plans on hold because I've been buying content for this site for YEARS now, struggling and scrimping and saving, and now that I have enough content to open it I can't afford to because I can't (or won't) pay $1500 to a bunch of extortionists. The sooner this ship goes down, the sooner I can get back to business. :)

I will also try to donate to FightThePatent soon. Good luck, guys. We're all counting on ya :)

I think this is an excellent idea.. I mean, we're all accustomed to having $20 here or there taken out. I sure wouldn't miss it..

L0stMind 10-09-2003 05:35 PM

I only have a new paypal account, so until I am verified I am limited in what I can send. Since I already used the paypal account to give some people money, I could only send $325 US over...

I dont actually own any video sites, but some of my clients I host do... as I make my living from them, I think I owe it to help fund the defence against Acacia.

So, $325 sent...

tootie 10-09-2003 06:43 PM

Way to go, everyone!

Bumping again for the cause :)

swami 10-09-2003 07:59 PM

$200 here
Can someone posts the paypal email address again?

Ok done.

JMM 10-09-2003 08:01 PM

Excellent idea.

This will get blown away, or there will be a lot fewer people in the business, when it is we should put up a hall of fame for those that gave to the fight and a hall of shame for those that gave to the enemy.

people like quiet will be remembered for helping get an extra $2500 to the cause, you will be remembered for jeopardising that $2500 and trying to fuck it over for everyone by your innate stupidity.

this will be the first time I have used the ignore feature ever.

When is the next court date between IMPA (or one of its members) and Acacia?

...and *bump*

Paul Markham 10-10-2003 01:20 AM

I think I will also send out a Newletter teling people about this.

If everone with a webmasters email list was to send out a request for a donation it would work better than this.

And let's get this on a monthly basis, 1,000 of us signing up to pay $35 a month is $35,000 a month to fight this. Nothing for each of us to pay out but as a united force it's enough.

Plus do you want your names in the "Hall of Fame" after this is finished?

quiet 10-10-2003 01:42 AM

hehe. looks like this thread took off - does anyone have a running total??

Are you sure about that? The FTPF site sais they will be donating 20% of their donations to IMPA and ASCAP (ACSAP? bah.)

Not to discount what Brandon is doing here... but right now the primary focus should be on the Acacia & the IMPA.

If that suit is lost (by the IMPA), then the rest doesn't really matter - because Acacia and the big players in this industry will consolidate this industry to under 50 companies. :2cents:

I understand there are other companies out there with potentially menacing patents... but THIS ONE has a publicly traded company with a decent warchest & a history of relentlessly enforcing their patents behind them... there others are like ZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Paul Markham 10-10-2003 01:44 AM

I just ICQ this to everyone on my list.

How about a few of you doing the same.

It's a good cause and needs to be kept in people faces. Just emailed my private list and ICQ list and got a few replies who do not know what this is all about.

They do not know abaout Acacia or their patent.

(charly I edited the post I made to clarify ..re-read it)

I don't doubt for a second that you donated the money. I was questioning if 100% of what you donated to FightThisPatent would pass through to the IMPA.

And like I said, not to knock Brandon at all, I just think people might be thinking a little too far ahead. If this one is lost, it's all over.

People just don't realize it right now.. but trust that if you don't have big money, and Acacia wins it's all over.

It's far easier for Acacia to license work closely with fewer well established people in the industry then it is for them to deal with 5,000 webmasters, the bulk of them probably hating Acacia's guts & trying to get over on them wherever possible.

I mean the demand of the market (people buying porn) isn't going to get smaller with this decision whatever it is...

the people who are licensed will just make tons more money that's all. Which is undoubtedly one of the main reasons the people are signing -- if Acacia WINS, these guys are basically getting grandfathered in at ultra low rates... while anyone else who comes along will have to pay a much higher rate to be in this industry.

It would be far easier for Acacia to manage, monitor & audit 50-100 companies than it would be thousands.

Ozzymosis1 10-10-2003 02:08 AM

Ive got $20.00 on it :thumbsup
