I started today with the beginning of an ambitious idea of forming a non-profit (501c3) orgnization called Fight The Patent Foundation.

This new organization continues the work that i started with FightThePatent.com by going further with the charter of helping to invalidate bad patents at the USPTO and in assisting defendants in litigation.

FTPF has an altruistic approach to fighting patent abuse, described better at http://www.FightThePatent.com/go

To execute on the vision of FTPF, i have started a fund raising Pledge Drive. Looking to raise $250,000 by webmasters banding together and donating $100. As you can see by the pledged total below, your fellow webmasters are supporting this effort. You can also see there is along way to go, but then again, it's only been 1 day.

I fully support the Homegrown crew and everyone else who is fighting this thing.

But I fail to understand how this event is insignificant. It seems to be wishful thinking.

You can say they're not major internet players (which is hard to believe.) And you can say that they settled in order to save money on legal fees.

But there's always the possibility that their lawyers simply advised them to pay up because it is, in fact, a valid patent.

I hope that's not the case, but it's definitely a possibility.

There are many "possibilities" ...

I think though that Far-L's statement that it was a "business decision" which is basically an accounting decision is correct.

Many large organizations got side swiped by the explosion of the information age - NOT just "adult industry" players.

The Patent Office being one of them.
They couldn't keep up to the exponential changes - plain and simple.

However, it should be fairly noted that without Larry Flynt's constant "litigation challenges" - many reaching the Supreme Court - even this board would not exist.

Can you really expect onecompany to always battle every costly court battle?

So they settled because it was cheaper - so what.
That seems to be what occurred - will the online adult community now band together behind those companies continuing to fight ...

Companies like AEBN.com and HomegrownVideo.com and others ???

There is one thing for sure ...
time will tell ...

How could LFP lawyers tell it's a valid patent or a piece of trash?

Homegrown is using the biggest patent law firm in the United States and they believe the patent is worthless.

Larry Flynt's lawyers are not patent specialists. They are business people.

Almost everyone says they settled because they got a good deal from Acacia so that Acacia could use the Flynt name.

Even Ken says it was a "business decision", which means they got a good deal.

It's as simple as that.
