with all the rules re: president, the field of prospectives is narrowed down to about 14 white men out of the entire global population :1orglaugh

I don't think that is a bad thing. If immigrants sailed over here last week and decide to run for Presidency, that would be insane.... but hands on experience speaks volumes. If someone is born in another country, like many of our grandparents and great grandparents, come here at an early age, become citizens, educated on American culture and can do the job efficiently... why not? America is an enormous melting pot of every culture in the world to begin with, I don't believe presidential job effiencency should be limited by your birth location.
I believe the laws should be changed to allow candidates to run, regardless of their birth location. However, I believe there should be a clause in the law, that you must meet certain other requirements, like X amount of years (20+) as a citizen, X amount of time in American schools etc etc. |
What is the problem so many of you have with the idea of an immigrant to this country being Pres? As pointed out by the above post, its unlikely it will be a newly transplanted immigrant, and an X amt of years residency requirement is likely to be in any legislation.
To say that you would leave this country because we would allow an educated, wealthy, popular immigrant to lead our country sounds to me reactionary and closeminded. |

With the all the immigrants going into America, you might not have much choice, but to amend it :) |
It was kind of a stupid law anyways.
There should be a law similar to how State politicians can get elected I mean just because you wasn't born in the US does not make you an american. If your parents are US citizens then it should be just as good. Think about all the Military families stationed overseas. Why can't their children have a chance to be President? |
