It's quite simple really. Indian run casinos are abusing their reservations and rights for tax evasion. We are not talking small time or even million dollar, white collar tax evasion. These casinos generate BILLIONS of dollars and do not contribute to the state. Just like crooked religious figures, that hide behind their church as a way to not pay taxes on many luxurious things. It's simply not right. Not on a million or billion or trillion dollar, economic effecting scale.
I live in an area, that is poor and impoverished. There are no jobs, no economic growth. However, there's LAND and lots of it. Some Indian tribes want to put up casinos around here. It would be a FANTASTIC economic move for the entire area. However, they do not want to pay a $15 million dollar fee per casino. That might seem like a chunk of change to people, but remember we are talking about establishments that generate that in a week or month.
Ok... yes bring on the ancient history cries about manifest destiny and how we wronged the indians out of their land. I agree, some tactics were WRONG. Slavery was wrong... a LOT of things in history were shameful and WRONG, but this is 21st century America. It's time to get past that and come to mutual terms, that benefits and respects everyone.
