Leaked report on Operation Iraqi Freedom

An official US army review leaked to the US NGO has revealed that the army had no plan for the occupation of Baghdad.

Officially titled the Third Infantry Division (Mechanised) After Action Report, Operation Iraqi Freedom, the study provides the first formal internal view of the Iraq war from the point of view of the soldiers who brought down Saddam Hussein.

Where do you get that "the army had no plan for the occuption of Baghdad?"

This is not a plan this is an After Action Overview. Since the initial action is now over and the operation has changed gears it would make sense that there be an internal review of events leading up to this point.

But that dosen't make for good message board fun does it?

Word for word. I should have put quotes mark so you feel better. Read the report or read the article: it is vey clear!

Here is the title of the article:

Report claims Bush team has bungled peace.

And BTW, did they have a plan, and if yes what was it??? Looks like a chicken with no head race....

God bless America,
Land that I love,
Stand beside her and guide her
Thru the night with a light from above;

From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans white with foam,
God bless America,
My home, sweet home.
God bless America,
My home, sweet home.

I will begin with...the perfect plan has yet to be made. Having said that...it is clear that inadequate (an understatement) planning was made for the aftermath of the cessation of major hostilities. The military...left to its own devices...usually...does a more than adequate job...but micromanagement by civilians...almost always fuck things up...by denying/ignoring this request or that request...and/or sticking their nose into the planning...or lack there of.

A couple of things of interest.

The wrong turn that was made by the convoy that Jessica Lynch was in and the resulting ambush...may not have ever happened but for the lack of GPS devices. Some soldiers had even purchased their own GPS devices out of pocket because of the lack of issuance of GPS devices.

From the critique...

"A good GPS device sells for approximately $100.00-$150.00, and insignifent cost.

Recommendation: The Army should purchase GPS devices as unit property and issue a GPS device to every soldier."

From the critique...

"Issue: E m b e d d e d Media.

Discussion: The guidance on e m b e d d e d media access to information was either misunderstood or not enforced. Also, control on the practices and discipline of the e m b e d d e d media needs to be increased in the future, perhaps subjecting them to the same limitations and restriction expected of our soldiers in order to insure good order and discipline.

Recommendation: Ensure that the guidance on e m b e d d e d media access to information is clear and understood by all. Look at subjecting them to restrictions on their conduct, such as the general order for the theater."

A good read.

Happy you enjoyed it. And I agree with you that civilians trying to run an army is not a good idea...

And I really think that the US believed they would be welcomed as liberators with flowers just as in France at the end of WWII, which explains the problematic aftermath of the cessation of major hostilities...

Those regions are very different and this administration continues to think they can " democratize it " . Bush's latest speech is a perfect example.

250,000 US soldiers died in WWII. 39,000 Canadians, 21,300,000 Russians.

FYI, soldiers die during wartime.
