Ive always wondered why they were so expensive--small liter sizes?

I want an irish wolfhound because I saw one about a year ago and they are great cuddlers. I love big big dogs. I used to have a great dane but they aren't big enough.

Bishop 10-04-2003 11:16 PM

Two of my English Bulldogs.. I have three.. Mini on the left.. she is the momma. Bear on the right .. I also have his brother Tubby Toby or Tubbles as we call him.

My wife (girlfriend at the time) got me Mini my little female bulldog for Valentines day.. we breed her one time with the grandson of the Halmark bulldog. The breeding was done via artificial insemination(sp?) and the puppies arrived via C-section. She had 6 puppies but 3 were still born.. so we had 3 puppies that did make it.

We sold 1 puppy for $1000 to recoup our expenses from paying the stud fee, vet bills, etc.. cost about $1000. We kept two. They are expensive because they are a pain in the ass to breed. We only did it once.. wouldn't go to the trouble again. Much easier to spend $1500 and just buy one from someone else.

Anatolian Shepherd. Although, not the most obedient dog in the world, but he sure is cuddly. Have a German Shepherd, a Shih Tzu and a terrier mutt too.

if you have no room for the dog, you should give him to someone who does

And that's why they're so expensive. :( Pugs are the same way. Almost all are IS and born via C-section. An average show dog pug will run you $2000-2500. And the ones that are in the pet stores....don't get me started - they are in SUCH bad shape and are so poorly bred that it breaks my heart...and pisses me off.

you mean it's poorly socialized and aggressive because you keep it in a cage.

dogs don't have to be abused to make good guard dogs.
dogs are smart. they can excercise judgement if you teach them.

our pit-mix is very friendly to us, our roommates, their friends, the cats, friends dogs, people we meet on walks, etc . . until someone uninvited comes by or tries to come in the house/backyard without us telling him it's ok. then he gets pissed.

hehe.. yeah. He goes through so many toys. We gave up buying from pet stores. Even the toughest rubber/plastic/rope doesn't last the afternoon. Now we just go to thrift stores and buy $2 stuffed animals, dolls, toys, by the bagfull.

I'm partial to my two Rotts, but i love pretty much any fat-headed dog, mastiffs, boxers, etc

Don't you have 6 cats too? Do they all get along?

PersianKitty 10-05-2003 08:52 PM

7.. not six.

The cats have learned over the past few months that when the dog is on the loose they get out of the way. A couple of them kind of like her, but she's too rambunctious right now. I do have a 4 x 6 pen set up in the house that's her 'quiet time' space. As she settles down with age, there won't be a need for the pen.

Im surprised no one has posted Chihuahua pics yet. They're awesome...specially the short nosed apple headed toy type.
