Starting Today..

The Do Not Call List goes into effect There's still a few loopholes telemarketers can take advantage of, but overall we'll still see a big drop in calls.

From usatoday
Scheduled to take effect today, the list set up by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has been shanghaied by two court decisions, with a third pending. At least one of the challenges raises tricky free-speech issues that could doom the national registry.

I get ZERO... using vonage I have not had 1 unwanted call.

There are times when I need to check and see if the phone is still working because it is so quiet

Here's a nice little trick that I've used and it works nicely:

When a telemarker calls, tell them that this is a business phone line. Not only will they apologize to you for calling, they'll remove you from their future lists as there's some severe fines for soliciting businesses. I haven't gotten a single telemarker harrassing me in over 3 years now ;)

yea, but that could block some cell phones, pay phones and long distance. I have call intercept which i love. It makes the caller leave his or her name then you can accept or decline the phone call.
Anyway, I do feel kinda sorry for the telemarketing industry. I know it's annoying, but a most of people think pop ups, crossbills, ect are annoying. How would you feel if pop ups or crossbills were outlawed or better yet, free sites. Since these telemarketers make most if not all their money from the phone, it's the equivalent of free sites being outlawed for us free site webmasters.
I know that there is a public demand for free porn unlike phone solicitation so it's not fair to compare, all I'm saying is that I feel sorry for the companies and the jobs being lost. Most telemarketers make 8 or 9 an hour and don't possess any real skills What are they going to do? wait tables again? Welfare?.
Don't get me wrong, I'm for this list and I even put my phone on it, but at the same time, I do feel for their industry. We of all people should know what it's like

I use to work for a telemarketing company years ago that had about 200+ employees (feel sorry for the guys that were still there). Although I see where the consumer can benefit from some of these surveys being conducted. I also understand how annoying it can be to get one of these annoying phone calls during dinner time. 5 mins surveys turn to be really 30 mins...you can imagine how many times I got hung up on.

my phone rings like once a week. I use privacy director and that pretty much gets rid of all telemarketer calls. Get some local charity ones like from the policemen but thats pretty much it.

Tried that line with MCI. Filled out a form for the Attorney General. Filled out MCI's form.

So far, nothing has stopped these fuckers from calling all three of my lines.

Odd, for me they stopped after about 2-3 months... At least the telemarketer apologizes and hangs up usually so they don't keep going in their sales pitch.

I just get all hot and steamy. Ask the girl is she likes anal etc.

OR, ask the guy if he likes anal etc.

That was at the house I rented, I don't have a phone line at the appt, just 2 cellies. No spam calls.
