Uninsured U.S. Citizens Rose Again: Up 2.4 MILLION

http://www.nytimes.com/2003/09/30/po...partner=GOOGLE

So now we have 43.6 MILLION citizens unable to afford health insurance.

This should be worthy of an investigation.

Unable? Or unwilling?

Most of the people I know don't have health insurance. They would rather spend their money elsewhere. Their choice.

of it's prohibitively expensive.

mine costs me $270 a month and that's just for basic. No kids, no medical problems, nothing. I think that's outrageous. I pay it, but I'm sure a lot of people can't afford that.

There's one thing in this country that I absolutely hate. Just can not fucking stand it. Any guesses on what it is?

Law suits. Fucking ridiculous and absurd law suits for millions and millions of dollars, causing prices on EVERYTHING to sky rocket and have a huge impact on society as a whole. It really pisses me off.

One thing that makes medical attention so damn expensive is insurance. Malpractice insurance for a doctor is absolutely insane. Thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars. The more specified doctor and procedure you have, even more expensive.

Granted, they would still charge a tidy sum for medical attention, but a good portion of it is well deserved. Medical equipment, research, never ending learning and knowledge, it all adds up.

Ja! I had to hunt for better coverage for lower expense. I found them. At least 50% less than you're paying.

Yet I have a friend, a former supervisor that is a retired miltary combat expert at that, and he, his wife and two kids comes to OVER $4,500 per month!!!

Lucky they both work or they'd be DOOMED.

Sure it's malpractice, education, fraud that punches the prices up but again it's an issue of mismanagement on both sides of the fence. The articles state that the jump was due to more unemployment.

Bottom line is that 40+ million without insurance means that the rest of us pick up the tab in taxes and higher rates. It's a dwindling spiral and has to be handled asap.

Or they'd rather drive the nice car, eat fast food or other restaurants, have several magazine and newspaper subscriptions, cable TV, high speed internet access, pre-made meals, go to movies, have nice clothes/shoes/accessories, fancy soaps and lotions, etc.

Not to mention that there are hospitalization/surgical plans (catastrophic) that can be under $100 for middle aged female.

If someone can't TRULY afford health insurance, we all know the government will be there to pay it for them. The vast majority of people who don't have insurance are spending their money on things they can do without.
