sad loss of inocence

Today is the aniversity of the loss of my elder brother.
It was 9 years ago he died of cancer.
A young person who I respected not only as a brother but as a friend.
Bill died of pancreatic cancer.
I sat in the cancer wards for at least a year.
When you pray for someone to die so their pain is eased you learn a lot about your life and yourself.
I have been an aethiest for years and still are to this day.
His death was a truely beautiful thing.
His eyes lit up and he smilled (absence of pain I guess).

So 9 years down the track life has moved on for me and mine.
I get really pissed when i hear people nocking my world.
I have been to a cancer ward,I have been to hell.
As my R Kippling
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
.. With sixty seconds' worth of distance run
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
R.I.P
Bill

cancer is a bitch, you aren't alone, pretty much everybody here will be stalked by the beast at some time, be it themselves or somebody they love.

i still don't understand why with all the amazing things humans and science have accomplished that cancer remains such a curse.
when my father was diagnosed i went through ever medical source i could, praying i would find something new and cutting edge, in the end he was treated with a drug that has been around since the 1950's, doesn't cure anything but give people a short reprieve. In 50 years nothing from all the billions of dollars of research has turned out better.

RIP Bill and a million others

Mutt,
I was thinking the same thing. There was a really cool artical written about the politics of cancer. The Medical and Drug companies are involved. Think agout the Trillions of dollars that would be lost if a cure was found.
Same with light bulbs that don't burn out.
Same with Auto Tires that could last 500,000 miles
Same with any thing you buy.
Same with Aids and cancer.
It's called Planned Isolation.
A Microwave, a TV, or a human life. All about the fucking dollar.

i'm sorry to hear of your loss. my grandfather died of cancer, although he did end up in remission first for years. he was one of the first two people ever to have cobalt radiation used, and although it was probably responsible for his remission, the experience of it with the chemo was so awful that when his cancer came back, he died rather than undergo the therapy again.

a war on cancer would be really wonderful, and very far reaching. with more time and money put into a cure, we could actually save many.

Amen to that. Shame it'll never happen. A war on cancer wouldn't win enough votes

There actually was an official 'War on Cancer' program started by I believe the Nixon Administration, sometime in the 70's anyway.
They have spent a huge amount of money on research and there have been successes in certain types of cancer but not enough, just read the obituaries in your local newspaper today.

as for a cancer conspiracy, i've read those articles. that's crazy, cancer doesn't leave any home untouched. every person involved in the alleged conspiracy has a mother or father, sister or brother, child, grandparents - somebody who has died of or is dying from cancer. you'd have to believe that these people who are suppressing a cure were the most evil people on the planet or they had some secret hospital where they send their loved ones and friends to get the cure that is being kept from the rest of us.

problem with cancer is that it's not just one disease like many people think, it's not like polio was, it's over a hundred different diseases, some pretty curable some incurable.

i did once hear a famous physician/scientist, i think an oncologist, on the old Larry King radio program. He said if the U.S. military budget was spent on cancer research he had no doubt a cure would be found in relatively short order.

that hits close to home and I'm sorry for your loss.

My sister who is truly the best, is fighting for her life as I type this, she has the single most radical type of breast cancer and her chances are .... not good.

I too have been finding lumps over the past year and have already had 6 removed and who knows how many to come ... the medical bills are seriously killing me - its a screwed up thing *sigh*
Although I do well on my own in this biz (since 97), I think its time I have to whore myself out just to keep a roof over my childrens heads.

war on cancer
war on pharmacudical corps
war on insurance corps!!

sorry for the rant and again .. sorry for your loss

A buddy and I were talking about the same thing the other day. He says that drug companies only work on things that are profitable for them. He said if they can come up with a cure that requires medication (pills) daily for the rest of your life then that's profitable. But if they come up with some sort of cure and the disease gets eradicated then that's not profitable. It's a one time deal. Cure the world and hope you make back the cost of the cure.

Totally makes sense to me. We are in such a world that money and profit is always #1 regardelss of what it's for.

I've had lots of friends & family die of Cancer. It's a shitty disease and it's time we stop wasting billions on war and instead start curing some diseases.

stopping war and stopping the profit gained from all this medical treatment and medications from these terminal illnesses such as cancer and HIV, as well as permanent STDS like herpes and stuff would too greatly affect the world's economy unfortunately... sad but true... until there is a solution, which i can't even fathom one for arguments sake, there will be no real wars on these viruses....

HIV is used for political gain now at least... that's one step towards something proactive, albeit with ill motives...

the dollar factor is so sad
The Usa has finally given the go ahead for Africa to have no-name aids treatment.
How sad is that? If we help Africa someone might resell the no-name medication and cut into our market share.
Vicki I hope all goes well for you and your sister.
When you hear statistics quoted they are just cold hard numbers but when it touches nearer to home WOW.
