If you have to make a move to Canada

Go to Montreal. It is the best city in Canada without a shout of a doubt.

I live there, to me it's the nicest place in Canada :thumbsup It's also the warmest; we don't see snow at all in Victoria :)

Part of my family lineage traces itself through Canada (New France). I'm descended from a man that was born in La Chaussee, France in 1631 and was recruited for New France about 1650. By 1671 he was living in Port Royal. It is Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia today. It was a town of 500 then.

100 years later his descendants would be deported from Acadia when the British defeated the France there. Their homes, churches, and villages went up in flames as their ships sailed from the harbor. Some would die at sea as refugees trying to make it back to France. Some made it to Louisiana. One died as a prisoner of war in England. Others ended up in Montreal in 1770.

The depression in Canada in the late 1800's forced our family to move to the United States. Some of them ended up in Holyoke, Mass. where my father was later born.

Cheers to all the people celebrating Canada! I live here, and LOVE it. Winter can be a bit of a bitch sometimes, but it is easily worth it, and a good excuse to take a sunny vacation.

What is with all this aboot stuff eh? Tabernak!! :1orglaugh

Cheers Spunky.... I was born and raised in Vancouver...now Im in Toronto. Toronto is great but it is a bit too cold in the winter. Vancouver has milder winters and you can't beat the mountains for skiing.:glugglug

This whole "aboot" thing was entirely made up by Americans.

Canadians don't say, and have never said... "aboot". More likely something that originated out of North Dakota.

I will concede that we say "eh" a lot though.

evildick 09-30-2003 07:25 AM

No one I know says "aboot". I think you start hearing that crap when you head to some of the provinces east of Ontario.

I hate hockey too.

No, not very far, just going by what I seen on TV. I think the Newfies have a weird accent.

Like I said, I've never heard anyone say it like that around here either.

Heh. Some Canadians I know sound EXACTLY like they are saying aboot. Maybe you can't hear it. lol. No one thinks that THEY have an accent. ;-)

Why don't you make us a wave file? ;-)

I was born in ND BTW. ;-)

Evil Chris 09-30-2003 09:27 AM

Newfies are some of the nicest people I've ever met, and yeah they have hilarious accents. I'd like to take a trip to St. Johns some day. It would be a great experience.

Cape Bretoners have even more pronounced accents if you can imagine. :)

The accent gets heavier as the empty brown bottles line up.

I'm liking this thread already (complete newbie). I'm originally from Montreal, living in Vancouver. What can I say, shovelling snow sucks, but it's good to have a real public transit system. And the mountains aren't bad either.

Maritimers are possibly the nicest people on the planet. When I was visiting there, I was lost in Halifax, and people were coming up and asking me, "You look lost, do you need help?" I was like scared the first time, but I got used to it. ;)

GO HABS!

You are lucky you didn't get mugged in Halifax heheh. But yeah, generaly the maritimes have the nicest people, just avoid the godamn acadians if you are not french. They somehow think we owe them the world. New Brunswick has some of the nicest woodlands in Canada. Even after Irving ripped the forests to shreds they replanted everything. The most beautiful part is in the Fredericton area. Took a road trip there on Sunday, my gosh.. the whole city is like built in an untouched forest I swear. I never seen so many old and beautiful trees. The highway scenery going there from Moncton is AWESOME. I took lots of pics :) The maritimes are generaly a very clean part of Canada. With Saint John being an exception. Very industrious city. Also the oldest Canadian city if I am not mistaken. It's like one giant "hood". Bumms and homies everywhere.

I still wonder what the hell a "Tim Horton's" is. I saw a ton of them between Washington and Alaska.

In reality, Canada is a beautiful country. I appreciate the gorgeous scenery I saw on the Alaska Highway. If you've never driven to Alaska you should at least once in your lifetime.

I won't drink Tim Horton's cofee anymore. It's laced with 3 times the normal amount of caffein that normal coffee plus other secret substances. It's no wonder a Tims drive thru is lined up to the second nearest intersection every morning at 7am.. All my friends drink this shit, and are always getting the shakes if they go 10 minutes past their usual coffee break. Also.. they even lace their fucking juices and pops with abnormal levels of cafein.

Funny everyone disliked us a month ago (or ignored us) I wonder if this thread of Canadian kindness has anything to do with the fact that Americans get influenced by the media way to fuggin easy...oh yeah, and in an unrelated topic "Bowling for Columbine" is out on DVD.

P.S. IM JUST PLAYING AMERICA, YOU KNOW I LOVE YOU.
