3 months and about 100 pounds ago........

You're putting on 33 pounds a month? When was the last time you saw your doctor? At that rate you'll break 3 bills within by next weekend.

I suggest you see your doctor and then get a second opinion.

definitely dump the pills. All that crap is just a jewish racket. Take a nice long walk , stop eating bad stuff, drink alot of water.

Please talk with your doctor before going off the meds. There is no need to shoot yourself over the weight gain. A low carb diet with lots of water and exercise WILL help to bring the weight down and may even help with some of the anxiety associated with depression.

Good luck,
:)

Dude we all get depressed , even us guidos just hang in there

AllisonWonderland 09-28-2003 07:13 PM

Anti-depressants frequently cause weight gain and are a hindrance to weight loss. (although 100 lb.s in 3 months is insane - get to the doctor!)

Atkins is not a "fad", it's been around for over 30 years and has spawned several other low-carb eating plans. And as stated previously, the horror stories about the people who have gotten sick, or died, from Atkins (or had their kidneys explode from protein overload ;) ) are complete fabrications. There is not one documented example. By contrast, every edition of DANDR has pages upon pages of references to the exact studies quoted in the book.

Not everyone can lose weight as easily as "eating right". And the food pyramid as it exists is far from right. I asked my Endocrinologist about possible long-term affects of doing low carb (ketosis), and he said that the stress on the heart from being overweight and the complications of diabetes would kill me long before I had to worry about ketosis. I was able to stop taking my diabetes meds simply by not eating potatoes, flour and sugar. How can that be unhealthy?

Many people I know who have been on Atkins (and didn't cheat) said that mentally they felt much better and more positive about things.

I mean these weren't depressed people to begin with.. so it's strange that they would need to comment that they were feeling so much better :)

Before you load that gun.. might as well give this a shot (err... a try.)

Not even neccessarily an Atkins diet, but just a better diet in general will contribute to physical, and in turn mental well-being. Eating foods high in seratonin, such as shimp, and foods high in viatmins and low in fats, it's amazing what they do...

Here is a good article for you to read., damian, about the chemicals in your body, what affects they have and about depression and whatnot.. With a little research on the net and a consultation with a NEW doctor (preferably some kind of specialist with regards to diet), you would likely be INCREDIBLY surprised at the results.

Most people also don't realize that even something as simple as diet can affect our moods. Definitely worth looking into! :) Best of luck.

I have a rule of thumb around my house.. Don't complain about it unless you're willing to do something to change it or cope with it. Take it to heart. Your depression will be back unless you seek a solution. You can do it!

Good to hear (read)!

Talk with your doctor or a new one about the meds. Also, http://www.low-carb-friends.com/ has a good forum if you are thinking about low carbing it for the weight loss.

Best wishes,
:)

I love the way that Dr Phil is a weight loss guru, yet he could easily stand to loose a few pounds himself. That man is a gifted salesman :thumbsup
