What is svc.exe

My firewall keeps asking me if I want svc.exe to access the internet.

Does anyone know what svc.exe is and why does it need to access the internet?

Thanks for any replies

Sometimes trojans will rename itself to scvhost.exe ( a typo of the real file so it looks real) so maybe someone made one thats svc.exe , ?? i dunno i would just try it without letting it access , often times its for some microsoft crap you dont need anyways, i always like to start a fresh computer up and then see what runs if i dont allow certain things.. Like you can shut all that remote procedures crap down its not needed and recently has had tons of hole ( like it shouldnt have been expected )

I'd start by searching for it on your pc.. find out where the file is located. That might give you a clue as to what it is. In doing a search on google, I found several valid programs that use files named svc.exe.

I just found svc.exe it's path is windows>system32

I scanned it with Norton Anti Virus and it did not show an infection.

Is there any danger of executing this application?

I also found svchost.exe

It is a legit program but it shouldnt be running . It looks like it runs in conjuction with some sort of logger for win nt , so i wouldnt let it have access , and would monitor that file , also check when the file was created/ last modified and if its recently and you havent installed anythign i would delete it .
