is a new file, or something you opened that maybe has the read-only attribute turned on? That's my best guess anyway.... but in the future, always always always save as you go.... I never risk losing more than about 5 or 10 minutes of work.

i've gotten it a couple times on plain normal files, unfortunately.

i think PS just craps out. i reinstalled after it happened a couple times, and no problems since.

but yeah, save often.

hmmm.... interesting. I don't use PS heavily, but the only time it's ever happened to me is when I tried to save a read only file... I wonder if it could be some kind of a memory problem or something?

There is a solution for this all...... PS stores a file somewhere on your HD while you are working on the project that is opened. It is not all in your Ram mem ( ). Scan your hd for the filename you have open with a _ infront or a wildcard. Normally it will find it and you can try to open that file or copy/paste it to a safe location (don't delete it though).
Hope this helps.

i've been having all kinds of trouble with this machine since i put it together. so it could be. i've been spending months trying to figure it out.

it's just a small hardware glitch, but nobody yet seems to have the answer

i have even gotten some memory corruptions on occasion, but i tested my memory pretty heavily with some os-independant software. took 7.5hrs, no errors

hey, before you kill the project, try this.... select everything in there and copy it, then see if you can open up a brand new canvas, paste your stuff in there and save that one....

got a lan server or another box on the network you can try saving it to? i doubt it would work, but it's also worth a try.

What about this:
select all - copy merged - open a new PS - new file - paste - and save from there.

BTW: if you want to keep your layers you have to do this for every layer then put them together again in your new PS

if all else fails, take a screenshot of it so you'll at least have a reference as you begin the rebuild.

If PS keeps doing it, and with all files, it probably means you're using an illegal version
