Very Basic Tip For Newbies - Create Your Own 404 Trap! - GoFuckYourself.com

Ok most of you guys do galleries right?

now whether you do 1 or 12 galleries per day, stick to this system and you will have a good amount of 404 hits to play with!

use 1 domain for galleries. as well, use 1 folder named "gal" or "galleries" or whatever, i use "galleries" usually.

everytime you make a gallery, put it in a *numbered* folder!

now the trick to this is, give them all spaced out numbers! for example:

domain.com/galleries/3/index.html
domain.com/galleries/3/3.html
domain.com/galleries/3/7.html
domain.com/galleries/3/12.html
domain.com/galleries/3/17.html

now you make a new gallery, put it in a new numbered folder, again make it spaced out numbers! for example:

domain.com/galleries/14/index.html
domain.com/galleries/14/3.html
domain.com/galleries/14/7.html
domain.com/galleries/14/12.html
domain.com/galleries/14/17.html

Now that this is setup, its time to catch these hits! lets create an htaccess file.

make a file named .htaccess and upload it to /galleries/
**note - name the file EXACTLY as i have shown. .htaccess

in this file, this is what you will add ....

ErrorDocument 301 http://www.whatever-page.com
ErrorDocument 401 http://www.whatever-page.com
ErrorDocument 403 http://www.whatever-page.com
ErrorDocument 404 http://www.whatever-page.com
ErrorDocument 500 http://www.whatever-page.com

and thats it! htaccess can get much more involved, but for the purpose of this excersize we will leave it as is. just enough to catch, and redirect your 404 hits. I would suggest sending them to either an email sponsor, or to a hub with an exit console. your choice.

Follow this system and in a VERY short period of time, you will have a decent amount of traffic at your fingertips. And to change sponsors all you need to do is change that one .htaccess file!

very simple, very effective, very profitable!

The way this works is that when a user goes to a free gallery, a lot of times he likes what he see's but doesnt want to sign up or pay for anything. so instead he tries to be slick and find your previous, or next gallery in the set.
hence, he falls right in your trap!

I did that for a while, but I took it off because of blacklisting problems. Give it a shot though and it might work for you!

Yah i think most people have been doing this for a long time but a great idea for those who might not have thought about it..

I usually like to try and put the galleries under a directory like

http://yourdomain.com/members/gallery/1/page1.html

so the surfer is more inclined to think that there may be some members pics he can view without authorization just by altering the url

.

This is kind of like throwing a couple galleries together on a spare domain and password protect them , then *pass along the password to some password sites .. The surfer thinks they are getting PAYSITE porn for free. I havent done this in a while but my brother used to make good coin doing it

Usually, if you have a lot of traffic, it is a very bad idea to AllowOverride directions from your htaccess files. Your Apache will spend too much time checking each directory for htaccess files instead of serving users. It is much better to place such directives directly in the configuration of Apache.

That is what I used to do. I would password protect a fake members area of a site and then give the password to one of those password trading sites. I got tons of traffic and back then, there was alot of click through programs that paid pretty good. The password for the fake members would be passed to a ton of password trading sites once it got listed on one. I just needed to do it once a month to make good money from it.

Isn't it only way how to raise your bandwidth with shitty traffic ? (when we know that most of the people comming there will never pay for porn, and maybe don;t even have credit card)

a) most 'newbies' (that this was aimed at) don't have their own servers
b) many non-newbies with dedicated servers don't even know what their Apache config file is or how to get to it ;)

Rich is helpful and was one of the few people that was nice to me when I first found this board, which wasn't too long ago.

Often, on message boards all over, I see alot of people that are nice, and aren't really that bad get ostracized for some bad posts, and EVERY SINGLE post they make after that will be flamed no matter the content. They start getting flamed by people that haven't even read most of their earlier posts and are just jumping on a band wagon.

I've went back and read mosts of Rich's posts, and he does post some stupid stuff some times, but most often it is just meant to get a rise out of everybody. I honestly don't think he's a bad person.

been there, done that. fortunately a lot of tgp scripts out there will catch a redirect and deny you without submitting.. and ultimately a blacklist.

it sucks if you merely typo, you're hosed

i do that on my sites. it does help a bit with traffic, and keeps interest. i've got a few sites that basically is the only traffic generation. it isn't great by any means, but it does the job.

what i should probably do is change it so the gallery dirs won't redirect, only basically anything else. that would probably be smarter. i guess i figure just not making a typo is the best route

it won't build a 200k tgp tho.. that's for sure

You can use ErrorDocument anywhere within the VirtualHost directive in apache.conf... (ie different 404 configs for different domains)

Often, on message boards all over, I see alot of people that are nice, and aren't really that bad get ostracized for some bad posts, and EVERY SINGLE post they make after that will be flamed no matter the content. They start getting flamed by people that haven't even read most of their earlier posts and are just jumping on a band wagon. I've went back and read mosts of Rich's posts, and he does post some stupid stuff some times, but most often it is just meant to get a rise out of everybody. I honestly don't think he's a bad person. I do not see any reason to flame him.. 404 traffic converts better than tgp advertising (for us atleast)... 1:400 is not bad for traffic that would have been lost otherwise. Give the guy a break, he is trying to help people.
