Foreign Investment In Iraq - Everything But The Oil

"In a major initiative to help rebuild the shattered (Iraqi) economy, the Iraqi interim administration has announced that foreign investors will be allowed to buy complete control of previously state-owned enterprises - except its oil industry. "

A previously state-owned Iraqi enterprise wouldn't be my first choice as an investment.

The plan was quite simple at its heart and is working magnificently.

Here you have an incredibly wealthy country controlled by a single family.

First cut the head of the snake off under the guise of liberation.

Make an instant fortune with all the bloated reconstruction contracts paid for by the American taxpayer.

Put a huge labor force to work that is as cheap to acquire as labor in China.

Take control of the oil fields and setup the refining and distribution deal with American companies.

Take all the previously state controlled enterprises which is just about every business there and buy them for less than pennies on the dollar.

Open the way for the Wal-Marts, Home Depots, McDonalds, etc. to come in and grab the best locations.

Let American banks take over their entire financial system.

Fuck the Saudi's heads and wallets up good for 9/11, by ending our dependence on their oil.

Save the American economy from the dot com and wall street crash with a much needed war.

Have a great justified reason to deploy new ways of controlling the American public and garnishing loads more info on everyone under the guise of homeland security.

It was brilliant!

At least one other webmaster on GFY has enough brains to "get it".

The truth is never too complicated. Just follow the money.

Pretty soon you'll see Iraqi programmers on Script Lance bidding on projects $6 an hour.

Well, not so sure he does get it. His first sentence states that the plan was simple and is working, both of which are wrong. Oh sure, they are trying to make it work, but it wont. Long term this is going to be a huge fiasco. Trying to invade and occupy a middle eastern country like iraq was and is folly.
Although the billions of dollars are indeed going to flow..............

60 minutes said the plan was simple and is working? I wish i had caught that. But i will come back here and admit wrong when i see the walmart and home depot franchises popping up over there. Sure thing.
Yes they will make some short term billions, and maybe thats all they care about. But its going to cost bush and his buddies their political power next year, and long term no telling how much it will cost the country as a whole. And not just in money.

The most valuable contracts on offer have already gone to US corporate giants.

Kellogg, Brown and Root - a subsidiary of Halliburton which was once run by the American vice-president, Dick Cheney - won a contract worth up to $7bn (£4.3bn) to repair Iraq's oil infrastructure.

Bechtel, a San Francisco-based firm, won the $680m chief contract to start rebuilding other essentials, such as roads and schools.

I have repeatedly stated that my friend Joe who owns Joe's Acme Construction and has six employees...should have gotten all of of the contracts. I am sastisfied that he could do as good a job as those hugh international companies can.
