Why is 4:20 so important?
The beaverbong site just got me thinking about the whole "4:20" ritual and how so many people take it seriously... If you think about it there are probably thousands of people all meditating at exactly the same moment all up and down your time zone... and if you think in terms of time zones -- for every American smoking, there's a 3 other tokers around the globe to balance things out... dividing the earth into 4 quarters... But you have to wonder if 4:20 is popular in India, China, etc... Given 4:20 is a global ritual and if you think in terms of time following the sun, there's 3 guys smoking at the same time as you, +12, +24, and +36 hours ahead...

Its a ratio. 4:20 = 1:4. Therefore 1 in 4 is an American.

So I wonder how the colon became used in measuring time... like 6:30 and 6/30 in math are the same, but why use the colon for measuring time? For the purposes of measuring time it's a different type of division -- you're dividing the measurement of hours and the measurement of minutes OF that our...
So 6:30 is like 30 minutes "of" the hour... and then it resets... Minutes reset at 59, 59.99999, 59.99999999 minutes, 59.999999 seconds... you are always approaching that all important "60" but with the hours, it switches to multiples of 4... So minutes work on more triangular logic, and hours work on more rectangular logic... So 1/3 of an angle in an equilateral triangle is 20 degrees so maybe that explains the emphasis on the :20 in 4:20. |

I think that man prefers rectangles over triangles because for the "home" or business it's the preferred way of building things... because if you've ever been in a triangular room there's a lot of "wasted" space -- you can't really do many useful things in the corners of a triangular room!
This whole notion of time being in units of 1/4ths for hours and 1/3rds for minutes makes me think of the egyptian pyramids -- essentially they have a square base but triangular faces... Maybe this was symbolic of the unity implicit in division... In a triangle, opposition is not really emphasized... Because you are never in a "faceoff" if on are on any node of a triangle... a square is more confrontational because it's emphasizes opposition... I think a triangle emphasizes unity... So you if unify opposition you essentially neutralize it and bring that dispersal of energy to an apex or climax... the top of the pyramid... ![]() |

420 became legegandary, not as a time....but as a slang name for weed.
420 comes from the police code for a marijuana bust.... sorta like 5-0 equals the cops.... 411 =info it came from street slang.... |

I heard that 420 was originally introduced by skinheads because 4/20 is Hitler's birthday and they found a way to popularize it with music bands and things like that.
I'm probably mistaken, but that's what I heard! ![]()

Check this out... Darwin on Dispersal...
"Living birds can hardly fail to be highly effective agents in the transportation of seeds. I could give many facts showing how frequently birds of many kinds are blown by gales to vast distances across the ocean. We may safely assume that under such circumstances their rate of flight would often be thirty-five miles an hour; and some authors have given a far higher estimate. I have never seen an instance of nutritious seeds passing through the intestines of a bird; but hard seeds of fruit pass uninjured through even the digestive organs of a turkey. In the course of two months, I picked up in my garden twelve kinds of seeds, out of the excrement of small birds, and these seemed perfect, and some of them, which were tried, germinated. But the following fact is more important: the crops of birds do not secrete gastric juice, and do not, as I know by trial, injure in the least the germination of seeds; now, after a bird has found and devoured a large supply of food, it is positively asserted that all the grains do not pass into the gizzard for twelve or even eighteen hours. A bird in this interval might easily be blown to the distance of five hundred miles, and hawks are known to look out for tired birds, and the contents of their torn crops might thus readily get scattered. Some hawks and owls bolt their prey whole, and after an interval of from twelve to twenty hours, disgorge pellets, which, as I know from experiments made in the Zoological Gardens, include seeds capable of germination. Some seeds of the oat, wheat, millet, canary, hemp, clover, and beet germinated after having been from twelve to twenty-one hours in the stomachs of different birds of prey; and two seeds of beet grew after having been thus retained for two days and fourteen hours. Fresh-water fish, I find, eat seeds of many land and water plants; fish are frequently devoured by birds, and thus the seeds might be transported from place to place.I forced many kinds of seeds into the stomachs of dead fish, and then gave their bodies to fishing-eagles, storks, and pelicans; these birds, after an interval of many hours, either rejected the seeds in pellets or passed them in their excrement; and several of these seeds retained the power of germination. Certain seeds, however, were always killed by this process." |

I was sitting in the Westin in the lobby and then I just remembered that somebody was having a 4:20 party for Internext... I looked at my watch and it was EXACTLY 4:20:00 the exact moment I looked at my watch...
