Credit card availability/usage, which countries have Visa/MC and can use them online?
I run a few thumb preview TGPs and have a handful of my own galleries listed on them. I am doing some loose browser-lang based filtering so that surfers from certain countries do not get shown my own galleries. The idea is that they'll never be able to sign up with ccbill (or whoever) so why waste my transfer by allowing them to load my gallery.
I'm after any data on which countries/languages are likely to be able to be processed by a typical third party Visa/Mastercard processor. So far I am allowing only en, de, fr and nl to see my galleries, but this list is just based on a quick hunt through my signup emails. Quick back of the envelope calcs show I could save 100-200Gb transfer per month by filtering like this, and if I get the country list right then the collateral damage (potential signups that are filtered and never see the gallery/sponsor) will be minimal. Any pointers to data or suggestions appreciated. ![]() |

I've had signups all over western Europe with CCBill.
All those countries you don't want just send to my spanking site at www.fareastmedia.com ![]() |

I would include all E.U. member countries plus U.S., Canada., Australia, New Zealand, maybe Japan, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Monaco

I pulled up some Verotel stats from my paysites showing the location (based on billing address, anyway) of signups:
593 U.S.A. (en) 46 United Kingdom (en) 34 Germany (de) 33 Canada (en, fr) 27 France (fr) 12 Australia (en) 10 Spain 7 Norway 7 Italy 5 New Zealand (en) 4 Switzerland 4 Sweden 4 Netherlands (nl) 3 Japan 3 Finland 2 Portugal 2 Mexico 2 Israel 2 Denmark 2 Brazil 2 Belgium-Flanders 2 Austria 1 South Korea 1 South Africa 1 Poland 1 Ireland (en) If I had pre-filtered en/de/fr/nl only then about 11% of these transactions would have never happened. Is that good or bad? Probably about even when it comes to loss of income versus the savings from less transfer on my galleries and paysite preview. If I expand the above list to include the European Union then I lose less than 3% of the transactions... |
