multiply by x and you got:

I.

-3x < 1
1 <= x

for x >= 0

II.

-3x > 1
1 >= x

for x < 0

from part I, you get x >=1 and x > -1/3, which results in x >= 1
from part II you get x <= 1 and x < -1/3 , which results in x < -1/3

This all looks kinda messed up people ;)

1) We would need to know what range of numbers x may be. but lets pretend it may be stuff like 1/3

2) first part:

-3 < 1/x

results to:

-3x < 1
x > -(1/3)

the second part:

1/x <= 1

results to:

1 <= x
x >= 1

thus you have x > -(1/3) and x >= 1 making the answer to what x is:

x >= 1

(because 1 > -(1/3))

see, you dont know that x is a positive number. when you divide x by both sides, x can be negative too, resulting in a sign change

The answer is correct.
Just do a graphic of f(x)=1/x (a double hiperbole), and it will be easier to visualize it.

3 > -(1/x) (multiply by -1)

1/x <= 1
1 <= x (multiply by x)
x >= 1

So: (Keeping in mind that x cannot be 0!)
-(1/3) < x < 0, x >= 1

Or, in english, any number between -(1/3) and 0, excluding -(1/3) and 0, and all numbers 1 and greater, satisify the equation.
