Anyone Know Anything About Household Fuses?

Yeah I am a complete moron and 2 of my fuses just went on me. They seem to be ones you just pull in and out of the sockets (A-E-C Pull out switches).

Are these just normal switches you can just pick up anywhere?
Thanks in advance

In The Dark DH

Here is what I am dealing with...

I don't know if I have to take out the round switches at the top or replace the round long cylinders at the bottom. I am fucking lost and I can't really call anyone because it is 11:00pm.

Can anyone give me some direction here?

Thanks
DH

The ones on the top unscrew, Turn them Counter clock .

The bottom ones are held in by the Brass on each end, just pry them up on one side.
If you have a Wal-Mart Store there they should have them.

You'll need to make sure you get the right amperage. That for sure I do know.

The cylinder ones I beleive are normally used for products like your washing machine, dryer, electric heating etc.

I haven't seen that shit since I was a kid. You should have an electrician come in and update that dinosaur with circuit breakers man.

If everything coming off that box is dead, then the big round cylinders at the bottom are the problem.

If it's just one or two circuits then it's one of the glass fuses at the top.

Do you have a meter or tester?

Otherwise, get professional help.

;)

edit to add more:

If everything is dead that recieves power from that box, is there another panel in the building that feeds this panel?

Is the breaker or fuse for the circuit in a different panel to this panel blown?

That's a really old panel by the way. The big ass fuses are across the incoming power to the box, from the diagram in your 3rd pic.

Inspect the metal strip in the center of the glass fuses. It should be in 1 piece. if it's broken, it's blown.

Yea they all got numbers on em like 20 or 30 or 40 and that's the amps for the fuze...

standard lower east side issue there

and if you don't got the fuze handy you can do the ghetto thing and shove a penny down the thing... just use a pencil that you've broken off the metal end to shove the penny down the hole

Yep a penny will do it and we can read your obit in a short time DH. lol Any hardware store can help you. Get that funny looking thing up to your ear and talk into the bottom part after dialing.
;-)p

Not ALL house wiring is able to be updated to breakers so have more than one electrician look at it. ;-)
