Disposable DVD trial

I don't think I'd be a fan of these, but interesting nonetheless...

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...580ck.html&e=9

The Walt Disney Company has begun to sell Disney movies on disposable DVDs in a four city test to see if consumers will pick up a limited life DVD rather than renting and returning to a video rental store. When the Flexplay DVD , shown in this undated publicity photograph, is removed from its packaging and exposed to air, a process begins that renders the disc unplayable after the pre-set viewing period elapses. The disc becomes opaque and thereby unreadable when the disc changes color from red to black. The DVD's will carry a suggested price of $6.99.

not only bad for the environment, but probably cost more to make than regular dvds. they dont like that video stores are cutting into their sales and they want the sales for themselves. i wonder how long till someone thinks of a way to make it not disposable so you have the full dvd for a low price.

Yes for only $3 more you can watch a movie with the added bonus of putting non biodegradeable material into the landfills!

It's already been done before, remember divx?

I still got my old Divx player,

It was a good idea but damn it didn't have shit for extra features like DVD's had, better off paying an extra 10 bucks for it

I remember when they went out of biz and the stores was selling the DVD's for like 10 cents a piece,, LOL

I still got like 10 more movies i never opened
