Before you even think of becoming a parront I would advise you to do as much research as you can 1st.
An answer to your question..how would you enjoy always being in your house and never leaving it? Birds need to be out of their cages as much as possible. Larger birds need lots of activity and exercise every day.
Our tiel is ALWAYS out of his cage unless we have a baby sitter over and at night. During the day he's playing and flying all over the house.

Freinds of mine had an African grey that got a long really well with me.....rarely bit me when we hung out...... he used to imitate the phone ringing and the pagers all the time...lol....got to be a little annoying after a while. You'd go to pick up the phone and it would be dial tone only....

Yes parrots are ALOT of work!!!
And when they bite they BITE! They can seriously injure someone, remember these are not normally domesticated animals.
If you're even thinking of getting one as I said before do ALOT of research first!!! Parrots are alot like 3 year olds. Imagine having a perminant 3yr. old for 40+ yrs.! You have to be 110% comitted to it.
Alot of ppl get a larger birds because they can talk,do tricks and are stunning because of their colours. DO NOT EVER decide to get a bird for any of these reasons!!
Again birds need alot of attention!! And if you don't give it to them they can start bitting, plucking etc..
A bird or any animal for that fact is NOT a novelty.
Whatever decision you make think twice about it and good luck
