Fuck that shit.
You must have missed the '94 Northridge Quake. I used to say the same thing about earthquakes until January 17, 1994 at 4:30AM. That changed my opinion.

It's my fault. The last time I moved to Naples (the first week of August, '92), Hurricane Andrew hit South Florida. Well...I just moved back to Naples at the end of June.
Sorry South Florida!!! But most are forecasting the Gulf Stream grabbing that sucker at the last and taking it north - just like most of the storms that head towards S. FL

Where did you hear that?
I just moved back to Miami last month and this is the last fucking thing I need...
This thing isn't supposed to hit the eastern seaboard until next Thursday or so, and a lot can happen between now and then...
Still, thinking next year, after the lease expires, moving to Austin where there are no hurricanes or earthquakes (just tornados and spiders that leave big ass scars on your body).

If it doesn't turn north, as usual, and just heads straight into FLA instead, then we will have about three days notice, so we should have a better idea on Monday or Tuesday.

Well I lived through andrew, was living in a city in broward county Plantation....
That being said most storms that approach this way will turn north but in andrew's case there was a pressure system that was keeping it headed west. Most big hurricans that threaten broward/dade come in from under cuba.
Unfrortunatly for those of you in florida I have a severe hate for anything broward and dade county and would like nothing more than to see it destroyed. Nothing personal guys its realy not about anyone here....So my cheers are for the Hurricane...
B.t.w I love my alienware but after I bought it I found out its just a repackaged system which annoyed me, you can find the same case and the same system without the alienware name cheeper..
Damn all this time I was fooled..Fooled I tell you!

This storm is going to do massive damage if it comes ashore in a developed area. Billions of dollars probably. Worst part about this is nearly all the insurance policies these days have fat ass windstorm deductibles. Mine is $10,000.00 i think. Time to start getting the hurricane shutters ready and maybe look into a nice Home depot generator.

This is classic...and such the truth.
We had an ice storm earlier this year. Knocked out power in some places for over a week. My buddy rented my generator from me for more than it cost to buy originally. He would have had to pay 2-3 times retail if he could even find one available for sale.
I remember well people "renting" out log cutters and chainsaws and the price gouging, its one of the reasons I want to see south florida removed from the map...

The ironic part of that statment is that the biggest "gouging" came from construction contractors who swarmed into the area from all over the country.......quite a large percentage from Texas. Using your logic.....I should hope that the mother of all tornados combines with the mother of all hurricaines up the gulf and sweeps Texas clean!

how about Hurricane Andrew's cover up where the government rid all those bodies and lied about it...
From one man that was in the heart of Andrew...
"Not until I managed to escape the aftermath did I discover that the "thermo-king" sections of these same refrigerator trucks, jam-packed with wall-to-wall body bags, ended up being stored at Card Sound Navy Base, located in an isolated area just above the Florida Keys. The inside temperature was kept cool by portable generators until the bodies were either incinerated or just plain dumped into huge open grave pits.
Those working on the body pick-up operation were forced to take what is known as the Oath of Sworn Secrecy, which is strictly enforced by the government. Many of them plunged into shock, once exposed to the ghastly devastation and countless mutilated bodies.
The horrors were way beyond human comprehension. I can vouch for this, as I accidentally stepped on the severed hand of a young child when I initially crawled out of the debris, only to witness shortly thereafter two dead teenagers and the decapitated body of a baby girl."

YES can i move first please...
I agree... I hate gouging in a disaster situation. I went down to homestead with my car full of cases of bottled water to hand them out just to help. The building I worked in was leveled totaly gutted...had nothing better to do, heard about the water shortage and did what I could...
I also broke into a few Coke machines and stole all the soda and handed it out as well....
HEY my heart was in the right place....

i live in south florida and lived through Andrew... i wasn't in the heart of it but i had to live through the aftermath along with the rest of south florida... the cover up is not hear say, there was a huge cover up because most of these bodies we illegal immigrants and United States Department of Immigration was fully aware of their presence and knowing full well that south dade farmers couldn't afford to harvest their crops without the help of these illegal immigrants. We had heavily populated migrant camps that were situated at the edge of the florida everglades. The people who lived there vanished without a trace during Andrew and many bodies were found way out in the Everglades.
