Is alchohol addicting ?

Some people claim it is.
How come I'm not addicted to it ?
I drink a lot. And I can go without it for months.
I drink for fun, not because I cant live without it.

Ask any alcoholic if it is addictive. They can all quit anytime they want to, right?

Many people are addicted to alcohol, yes.

Not everyone that tries something that can be addicting become addicted. Some people can recreationally use cocaine, for example.

Where do you get your chips? The chip fairy?... LOL

I don't know why, but I am that lazy too... it sucks when you run out of chips and are too lazy to go and get some more though.

Alcohol can be addictive and also it has a lot to do with genetics, if your family is predisposed to alcoholism you can become addicted quite quickly and from fairly light drinking.

I actually tried to get addicted to it. Dran a lot and often.
And nothing happened at all. After a night of heavy drinking I can't even think about it the next day - it's so repulsive.

I dont understand how some people become alcoholic.
For some years ago I drank like crazy, and one day I just stopped doing it.. And I didnt have any problem with that.

Only 10% of drinkers can become phyically addicted to alcohol and that is because of their physiological makeup. Their bodies process alcohol differently then a normal body does. Something similar to the majority of Asians not being able to process diary products. A normal body actually has an aversion to alcohol.

Pyschological addiction is a different story.

Alcohol is only addictive if you rely on it to make you feel good. If you have a stable life then you can drink lots and lots and still can do without for as long as you want.........

If shit goes wrong for ya then you could start to rely on it, then thats when it "could" become a problem....

Alcohol is not a patch on nicotine. It would take a long time for the average joey to become addicted to the effects of alcohol.... Usually, your liver would have rotted away by this time.

Ok Dr...

Get real... your body becomes dependant on the chemical that the alcohol, pot, coke, whatever is adding to your body. When the chemical is no longer there the body goes through withdraw in need of that chemical...

It is physical... not mental.

Seriously...

do you drink or smoke weed? Do it often enough that you have to drink n=more or smoke more to get a buz? Why is that? because the body becomes immune to the effects of the chemical from the substance and you need more to accomplish the same result...

Now... drink/smoke for two weeks straight... I mean morning, noon, night. Then stop... I mean nothing for a day or two and see if you do not feel the effects.

Personally, i like my weed.... Usually by the time I am done with a half .oz... the weed does not effect me the same way.. I need more to get a buz... then when I am out... I get cramps for a day or two... nothing major... just my body adjusting to the lack of THC that the weed prduces. I also get a little mean the 1st couple of days I am dry.... Pot heads... you know what I mean....

If you gulp your drinks instead of sipping, you might be a genetic alcoholic. Watch someone drink wine. Alcoholics tend to take bigger swallows and they finish their drinks a lot faster.

If you get drunk just about every time you drink you might be a genetic alcoholic.

If you have blacked out a few times you might be an alcoholic. Same with driving home drunk a lot.

Good book about all of this:

"Drunks, Drugs, and Debits: How to Recognize Addicts and Avoid Financial Abuse"
by Doug Thorburn.

This book is different because the author suggests that people do not BECOME addicts because of psychological problems, but they suffer from psychological problems because they ARE ADDICTS by genetic disposition, which is the reverse of what many psychologists think.

5% of this thread knows what they are talking about.

Sorry it just makes me mad on everyone's theory on addictions. It has nothing to do with how stable your life is or what kind of a person you are...it's an illness and should be treated that way.

Some yes... others just get caught up in it and cannot get out. Harder stuff mostly...

I tried coke once... I liked it... I did it on occasion... (socially, like social drinking)... I started doing more and more till I had me a 300.00 a day habbit.

Had nothing to do with my situation, weakness or anything like that... I did it, I liked it and I got addicted to it.

That one was a hard one to break... Weed, I can take it or leave it... I would rather take it... but nothing like the effects of stopping coke.... Heroine is the worse of the "drugs".... Cigs are the worst of them all... I still cannot seem to put them down.
