The weird thing about The White Stripes is every time I hear one of their songs for the first time it sounds like a top 40 hit from another era, like I must have heard it before.

EXACTLY!!
THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS THINKING.
Its like they have bits and pieces of a lot of the old bands from the past.

they were one of those american bands that came to London to be big and then went back to the states. First gig here at the 100 club people went mad and they grew from there.

well the lastest album was all recorded in London in a vintage 1960's studio. Nothing in the studio was modern and they did the whole album on next to no money. Like Chris said the album has been in the top 10 here for months now and they are a massive when it comes to tour.

The most I've ever paid for a ticket was $45 for Dave Matthews Band... and the White Stripes are no where near as cool as them.

Totally. There are so many bands trying to do some sort of retro sound, but The White Stripes get it eerily right every time. I busted out my old Buzzcocks stuff after I heard the first White Stripes single, but it is not like they are just a Buzzcocks knock-off, they really do have just enough pieces from a huge number of past bands, that their stuff always sounds familiar and new at the same time. Not sure yet how well it will stand repeated listens though.
the brother sister thing was an act..for a year the UK music press was trying ot figure out if they were brother or sister or something else and they would never answer.

Has the same effect on me, like Glam, but I love them dearly, rock on!
hmmm When they pulled out of playing T in the Park in Scotland it was apparently because the drummer had broke "his" hand. Sorry my bad...... Maybe I'm thinking of someone else.......
they have both broken things recently..I think she broke her foot or something. I read something where he said he was just happy to make it past the dreaded rock star age of 27

I posted a post here the other day saying they get my vote for the best new UK band of the year. I wouldn't actually call them Glam, they are more old Queen/Van Halen with the body suits.
For the record though - I LOVE glam music. Marc Bolan and I have a supreme weakness for Sweet. Ballroom Blitz in a great song.
Didn't they do the album in thier basement or soemthing?
