How do i configure what applications start up on my taskbar when i start my computer?

i have windows xp, im talking about the far right hand corner, where icq is located. when i start my computer, i have several applications that load in that section, and i have to wait 3 minutes for all of them to load before i can use my computer so it is not slow. i always right click and exit out of the programs after they load, but i know there is a way to have them not load at all. i believe you go into "run" and type something in and it brings up the option, but i can't remember what it was. anyone know?

start > run > type "msconfig"

look under start up.

don't disable anything important.
