Acacia sounds like they know there shit

"Although Acacia was an early investor in the company that developed the DMT patents, we didn't purchase majority control of the company until the end of 2001. Before licensing the patents, we spent an enormous amount of time and money doing due diligence on the patents. Three prominent law firms that specialize in intellectual property reviewed the patents. We hired professional search firms to perform prior art and literature searches in the U.S., Europe and Asia. We consulted with experts in the field including college professors and PhDs. We even hired patent buster groups who specialize in invalidating patents. All of the conclusions were that our DMT patents are valid and enforceable. "

This interview with Aracia does sound bad, if they are not lieing and they have done all this research before buying up large chunks of companies and looked into prior art and all that. Doesn't sound great. Is this scare tactics or do we really believe they did all this research??

Well I wouldn't expect them to announce something like this.....

"We didn't consult with experts in the field but we did talke to a college professor having lunch at Mc D's. We even hired patent buster groups who specialize in invalidating patents but have never had any success in defending one yet. All of the conclusions were that our DMT patents are valid and enforceable."

Hey now..
I'm sure they went all out..
and decided to take the crap shoot in court. After all, it's the investors that get shafted if they lose, not them personally, and management can always blame the lawyers.

Of course they "sound" like they know what they're talking about - they're a bunch of lawyers! It's what they do. (This is, of course, my opinion. I am not a lawyer. Nor am I a doctor, a faerie of the North Woods, or a Bible scholar.)

Are they right? Are they wrong? I don't know. What I do know for a fact is that 98.76% of all statistics are completely made up. *

(* I don't ACTUALLY know that either. That was a joke. Granted, a lame joke, but a joke, nonetheless. Just trying to C my A.)

I am sure that the important decisions will be made by those who were born before the telephone was invented and have no idea what a mouse mat even looks like.

They did all that and still had to appeal the v-chip ruling due to losing that little battle..

So much for their efforts ...

I was going to say the same thing. They thought the same thing about the v-chip patent they had and that got shot down. They were talking about how confident they were with the v-chip patent and that they would win. They are lawyers that act like some of the scummy used car salemen that I have dealt with in the past. They are only going to sell you on how much the patent is valid and that you need to signup for it now before it's too late. That doesn't mean they actually believe their own hype (which is all it is "Hype"). IMPAI thinks thinks they will win and ACACIA think they are going to win. Until the judge says something ACACIA has the upper hand for now (and unless IMPAI wins, ACACIA will have the upper hand after the judge says something also).

Their plan is to get as much licensing money as easily as possible before they lose, just like the v-chip. They've continually stated that they don't know why people are fighting when it's cheaper just to settle. Despite a summary judgement against them, they also stated they won the V-Chip case. When asked how, the first thing they answered was "We got $26M in licensing fees".

But their plan wouldn't work at all if they said, "We have no idea what's up, but we want you to pay us. Not sure if you really have to, though."

Heh, that's why last quarter their earnings were $75,000 and their expenditures were $5 million. They are on a losing path.

Of course they didn't do the research.
Wasn't nasa broadcasting compressed video from the space capsules 30 yrs ago?
Cable companies, that guy who invented the video phone, et et.

I haven't seen tonne of what they filed for a patent, but it seems like they ignored the previous ones from what little I have seen.

For some stupid reason I can't get their patent # to appear in the online database I use.

Acacia is not invincible. Nor are they all knowing.

They lost on a SUMMARY JUDGEMENT on the v-chip case yet they still act as though they won.

They sure can muster a lot of bluster though for losing so big on that v-chip.
